@Vsmart:  Moores, Tip Top, and Stars are the 3 big tuxedo/suit rental places around here.  Moores and Tip Top are located across Canada making it really easy to get guys who aren’t local sized.  We’re likely doing ours through Moores.  They have 2 shades of grey (a light Calvin Klein and a darker Vera Wang, both are less than $200 each to rent, with 5 paid rentals you get a free one).

I don’t know if you can purcahse the same ones that are available to rent but I would check with those 3 stores and see what they have to say.  I know the rental suits & tuxes don’t always have a perfect fit.  I believe that Moores also has an affiliated Big & Tall store but I’m not certain.

@Vsmart:  They measure you but they don’t custom size the suits/tuxes. They will order whatever size is closest to the measurements.

@Vsmart:  You’ll be surprised – FH thought he was a ‘werid’ size.  But he fits in to standard suit sizes.  If they do need to mismatch things they can usually make it work.  Rental pants usually have an adjustable waistband so they fit a range of sizes.  They won’t alter a rental suit or tux.

@MsGinkgo: I’m also very interested in this topic, as FI would like to purchase his own suit for the wedding but I think it’s a bit much to expect his groomsmen to go along. Am I correct in understanding that Moores/Tip Top etc will rent suits as well as tuxedoes? We’re really only interested in the suits, but I thought most places only did tux rentals.

@MrsRevolutionize:  I believe that they rent suits as well as tuxes, but I think it’s only specific ones that are available for rental and I’m not sure if the same ones are available for purchase as well or not.  If it’s only the groom purchasing a suit, if his is different I think that would be perfectly okay.

We are going with the grey “Vera Wang Black” suit from Moore’s. You can piece it out and rent as little or as much as you’d like. Our guys are just renting the vest and pants, since we’re having a destination wedding. My fiance is wearing just the vest and actually purchased his own suit that is a bit different grey colour but I think it will be nice. One of our groomsmen is 6’7″ so we were worried about this but the girl assured us, they can find sizes for everyone!

@MsGinkgo: Yeah, FI is very interested in doing something like this…

… so if he got a different suit that would work fine. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond, this definitely expands our options 🙂 🙂

@MrsRevolutionize:  that’s almost exactly what we’re doing (that was our inspiration pic) except my groom will be wearing the same vest as the groomsmen!

@Vsmart:  Rented suits are not professionally tailored. They take the mens’ measurements and select the closest suit in size. They have limited capacity to alter things like waist and sleeve length.

If you are ready to go on purchases now and can organize quickly, The Bay is having a great special in their Black Friday sale- buy 1 suit get 1 free.  Applies to Black Brown, Perry Ellis, Portfolio and Kenneth Cole Reaction.

@Vsmart:  Just say charcoal suits, or medium grey suits, and tell them to get what they want.  They can spend what they want, have a suit they want, and that fits, and if you’re only going to own one sit, it should be charcoal, anyway.  The location won’t matter either.  If anyone is really short, Brown’s menswear in queen street near city hall specializes in men under 5’8″.

Sign up with Moores for their promotional e-mails. They have BOGO events three times a year. My FI and his 3 guys purchased thier Calvin Klein suits, dress shirts, nice sandals and leather belts together. They then split the purchase amount in half…saving them $800 (or $200 bucks each) in total. They all have attire that is sized correctly for them.
