We got the guys matching ties (none of the bridal shops had the color we needed), plus nice cuff links, and my guy is toying with the idea of putting some money towards each tux because we picked out more expensive than normal tuxes. Like, $30 or something.
What does his GM like to do? Is there an activity they like to do as group together? Like play poker? Go golfing?
We're getting the GM engraved German Beer Steins (2 of his GM are his brothers and they are of German descent) and if I can find a nice pocket watch w/o breaking the bank. We'll also be providing the ties for the guys and I'm hoping to find double happiness cuff links!
We paid for the tuxes. My husband had been a groomsman a couple of times and found the gifts he receieved he ended up not using so he decided the best gift was to rent the tuxes and then the guys could get themselves something out of the money they didn't have to spend on rentals :)
If it wasn't a winter wedding, he probably would have taken them golfing!
Monogrammed flasks from www.eflasks.com . They have some great deals! We also purchased them Buffalo Wild Wings giftcards. What guy doesn't love that place? =)
We're also doing German Beer Steins. Note to anyone thinking about this, real ones are incredibly expensive! We lucked out at Christmas time and found a man liquidating his entire collection due to the economic downturn... so we got beautiful, antique German steins for a shamefully inexpensive price, each one unique to each groomsman!
I should also say that we are using these as table decorations on the groomsmen's table. Likewise, I'm getting cast iron tea pots for the girls, and we'll use them as table decorations on the bridesmaids table.
We got cufflinks for all the guys and engraved their names on a mason drinking jar. They are all drinkers and most of them grew up drinking out of mason jars so it was a fun gift for them.
We got the guys a collapsible cooler and put their favorite drink in it. Then we got them each a ticket for a football game which was about 2 months after the wedding. They had a really great time getting together again!
The "mutual interest gift" is a great idea. My fiance is probably going to put together a gift bag of guitar stuff (nice strings, picks, a strap, etc.) since all of them play guitar. The funny thing is, he didn't realize it until I mentioned it! The best part is we know they'll actually enjoy and use the gift.
My FH is thinking of getting his groomsmen ipod nanos. He came up with the idea himself - I think it's pretty good!
@ doctorgirl,
Lucky! On scoring cheap beer steins. Did you engrave them? I looked briefly online and did not like the generic personalized beer steins. But if I got the more "realistic" ones I'm not sure how we can engrave them?
Another reason why we seriously need to be hitting up those garage/estate sales this summer!
I've got a list of things for the wedding that I think I can totally get at those!
Caution on the iPod Nanos, make sure your guys/girls dont' already have them! I thought briefly about doing it but everyone in our bridal party either already has one or would not have the time to update it. A friend of ours got one as a GM gift last year but he already had a iPod and a iPhone. Didn't really get that one.
Gerbera-
The one we got for his best man is engravable, the others are not... but each one has a scene that is pertinent to the guy we chose it for... so it's personalized in that way. We're writing a little card with why we picked this particular stein for each guy and tucking it inside.
We really lucked out, and in addition to the cheap original price (like 1/3 of the actual value of the steins), I asked for a discount because we were buying 6 of them (just to see what would happen. I figured he'd turn me down). The guy knocked the prices in half again!
I felt a little guilty getting them for so little, but we're trying to be frugal with the wedding... so my policy is to always ask for a discount on every single thing.
He got different gifts for each guy, but all worth about the same. Engraved cigar holder and flask for one, engraved leatherman for another, and a desktop foosball table and engraved tie pin for the emcee.

My FH is stressing out about what to get for his groomsmen as a gift. Do you know what your man is doing yet?
