The doctor’s office said I have to go to a group info session before I can go to an appt with my midwife. Has anyone been to something like this? is it going to scare the crap out of me? When I am anxious, I black out and I do not want to black out at my first visit!! Kinda freaking out

I would just ask what sort of information they cover in the session so you know what to expect. It’s probably just policies & procedures for the clinic, I would guess. I doubt they show you a bunch of birth videos and stuff.

why would it scare you? i would imagine it’s just general info & maybe you can meet some other pregnant ladies due around the same time as you.

You guys are probably right. I am totally nervous about birthing classes and I need much more time to mentally prepare!! Policies and procedures sounds easy – I can do that!!

@afuturemrsl: Birth classes are usually separate, and offered much later in your pregnancy. I had to do a birth class as a stipulation to use the midwife clinic at my hospital. I found it very informative, not terrifying or gross!

@afuturemrsl: I haven’t been to one, but they probably just tell you info on the office’s policies and procedures. I’m guessing they’ll review how many ultrasounds you’ll get and when, visit schedule, etc. etc. It’s definitley not going to be a birth class or anything.

It’s the same here for many midwife practices – no big deal. It’s likely just an info session.
