My venue does a tasting 4 times a year. Mine is scheduled in January for my June wedding.
Has anyone been to a group tasting like this before? They let you taste hor’dourves, entrees, cakes and all the fillings/frostings, etc. but you’re there with other brides and grooms getting married around the same time as you.
I’m curious if everything will be buffet. If the hor’dourves will be arranged buffet style or if they will be passed and we’ll have to fight a bunch of other people to taste things.
If you had a group tasting how did yours go and how did you like it?

@irishphoenix: Yes. Our venue did two or three tastings each year as well, and DH and I attended the first one they offered after we signed our contract.
The hors d’oeuvres were both butlered (passed) and stationary, and the meal was a buffet. Each couple could submit a short list of preferred items to be included in the tasting, but only three of the items would be guaranteed to be included.
It wasn’t ideal, and the venue charged $75 per couple for the experience. However, DH and I were able to make informed choices as a result of the tasting.

Our venue did a group tasting with 12 other couples. We were all seated at our own tables and were served several options of hot and cold appetizers, 2 startches (rice, potatoe), 4 chicken entrees, 1 beef entree, salmon with 3 sauce choices, and 2 vegetable options. We had a choice of 3 cake bakers and did those tasting separately. We were not charged for any of our tastings.

@irishphoenix: Yes ours had a group tasting event. They had passed apps and then the dinner was a buffet – they had starter salads to taste and all of the entree choices. They had the preferred cake vendor with samples (you had to make a separate appointment though to chose your flavors/design). They also had a bunch of other preferred vendors there (photographers, bands, djs, tuxes, etc.) and had tables set up in different linen choices. It was fun!

Thanks guys! I guess I better email my coordinator from the venue and ask. I’m looking forward to it, it sounds like fun!
