Groupon honeymoon

I’d be a bit concerned just because people with Groupons are sometimes not treated as well as those who pay full price, or places that run Groupons are sometimes trying to drum up business because they’re not doing well compared to their competition. I’d look at the place’s reviews and see whether it seems like a good place that’s running a deal, or whether there’s some problem going on.

danih82:  I haven’t booked a honeymoon through Groupon, but I have booked 2 vacations through them and I just booked another hotel stay for August.  I don’t agree with the PP, because I have had great experiences each time. I don’t necessarily think that places that run Groupons are not doing as well as the competition. A lot of times, hotels will run groupons if it is an off season. I purchased a Groupon last year for a 4 night stay at the Hilton in Niagara Falls. We had a great time and the accommodations were awesome! We also did a weekend in Newport, RI which was also fantastic. We are going to Belize next month and using a Groupon. The hotel we are staying at has been rated 4.5/5 stars on tripadvisor.

I think as long as you look up reviews on the hotel, you should be fine. I’ve always had great experiences!

danih82:  Soooo glad you asked this question. I have been considering the same thing and would love to hear more from those who have booked a Groupon vaca.

citysparkle:  To be fair, I did say sometimes. I just think it’s worth looking into. My friends and I have had a few Groupons go wrong, so I’m more careful about looking into the companies posting them now.

rubysparks:  Agreed. It’s definitely important to look at reviews before booking. I’ve also had a groupon go wrong, but it was at a restaurant. I’ve just always had great experiences with the hotels/vacations.

We groupon’ed our honeymoon and had a wonderful experience! Just do independent research about the resort and read the reviews to see if it is a place you would want to stay normally, groupon or not.

We went to Yok Ha Resort in Belize and it was absolutely perfect for us.

ETA: In our case, the reason the small, family owned resort had a Groupon deal was because they were still in their 1st year of business. It was excellent advertising for them – the private island only had 5 cabanas in addition to the dining room & family’s home, but while we were there, there were other Americans, Canadians, Australians, etc. as well. There were even a couple different sets of Canadians, from opposite sides of the country.

We did a Groupon Kenyan safari honeymoon which included airfare, lodging and activities! It was awesome and the travel agency offering the deal was fantastic to work with. It was great not to worry about planning anything.

danih82:  Agree with other PPs, trip adivsor it, if the review look good, go for it!

We’re not grouponing our entire honeymoon, but aspects of it (massages, dinners) it’s a great way to be able to have lots of experiences for not as much money.

So excited to see this thread!  My FI and I just started looking at Groupon for possible honeymoons, but we were worried about the quality. I’m glad to hear people have had good experiences!

danih82:  I actually just booked my honeymoon through groupon, and everything has gone smoothly thus far.  His parents told us they would cover the trip, and were given a specific budget, only to be told when it came time for booking that the amount was actually half of what we were originally told!  Groupon, for us, was the only option (given time constraints and everything else).  I found a 13 night honeymoon in Belize for only $1400 (plus airfare)–we’re staying in the jungle and on the beach, and both locations have fantastic reviews online.  I’m very excited, and actually, very proud we were able to make it all work.
