Oh my gosh that is horrible! I've never had such issues with FinAid, mine always came in 7-10 days before classes. What is the hold up??
Just keep in mind... it WILL be worth it in the end. Sorry they suck though :(
The rush of people applying for it, I guess. My FI is paying off the card when he gets it in, but since the card's in my name I worry. Which he's mad about since he says I shouldn't. But the it's in my name so how can I not worry?
Did he try Half.com or other discount text books sites? My FI got his $175 book for $2.50.....seriously!!
like shaema said, you can try half.com. i use campusi.com [i think it's now dealoz.com or something like that...either way it redirects to where it's supposed to go] and it collects prices from every seller that offers it so it's super easy to compare prices. i really wish i knew about this when i was in undergrad! though it's been a help with my grad school books.
That sucks that financial aid is taking so long! I hope it gets better ASAP!
@Shaema- We didn't even know those existed. I just tried to get him to cancel the order (he seriously is getting them from the college bookstore even though they can't garuntee used books) to save on shipping, but he says it's "too late." Don't know why, it's not like they've had time to ship anything yet. Hopefully he'll see sense and check out that site!!!
I second DealOz. I had a new book for one class that wasn't available when I first looked. I checked back a week later and got it for less than half including rush shipping! I get all my books (not just text) that way! It looks at Half.com, amazon, buy, and a bunch of others (I think the "group" reseller I've been using through DealOz is abe books0.
I was always able to return books to the bookstore w/in the first 14 or so days of classes as long as they were still in the condition that I bought them in (some were wrapped in plastic etc). I used to buy them at the college bookstore, write down the ISBNs and then search for them online (half.com etc). do some online research, you can definitely find those books cheaper! smile!
I always ordered mine online super cheap.
FH also owes me $ right now and I won't get it back until he gets his tax refund. I totally understand the stress. *hug*

I hate when it's the time of year for my FI to buy his fricking college books. MOre specifically I should say I hate dealing with Financial Aid. They are running 3 months late, so I had to take out a credit card so we could pay for his new tabs and plates on the car-that was $70. Well the book are going to cost almost $400!! That means in one day my stupid credit card has $470 put on it. There goes wanting to get groceries!!! I fricking hate these schools sometimes!!! As it is the school said we will be lucky if we get financial aid by December. We already have to have deferment for his tuition until it comes in. This sucks! = (
