I am newly engaged (wheeeee!) and starting to look around for a good photographer. The wedding will actually be in Hamilton, so I'm looking for someone in the GTA/Golden Horseshoe.
I would like to find a photographer who does a combination of photojournalism/posed shots and whose rates are reasonable. Photography is very important to me and I don't want to skimp, but I don't want to spend $4000 either.
Anyone find a photograher who's a good compromise between quality and cost?
When we were looking for a photographer, we also decided that we wanted the photojournalistic approach with unique shots and real, candid moments. We both felt that the photography was a huge part of our wedding, especially since we decided not to have a videographer. We set a budget for $2500.
We went to www.wpja.com to find local photography companies - this website is GREAT! It lists photographers by area (I was looking in Toronto) and even lists their price points. We ended up meeting with a few people to discuss our day but we ended up with Mariusz from "Where Heaven Meets Earth" (www.hephoto.ca). The moment we met him and stepped inside his studio, we were blown away. He went through everything with us and answered all our questions, his personality was awesome....we ended up going with a custom package which included 11 hours of coverage, all our proofs, a few 8 x 10 images, a calendar, a digital CD and a gorgeous album for $2700 cash. And with this package, w have the option of purchasing parent albums, grandparent albums, etc. He also offers great payment plans....$200 deposit and $600 payments before & after your wedding.
We also met with www.360mm.ca which was a great experience as well. A friend of mine just got married this past weekend and they went with Xero Digital - their website looks good too!
We had similar requirements for our photographers. We looked at 3 that were in our price range and at the end wend with www.boyfriendgirlfriendpictures.com Jess and Vanessa (the photographers) are amazing - we had some engagement pics done already and love love love them. Check out their blog and you can see their most recent weddings.
We found that we were most comfortable with them and they were people that we would be happy to have at the wedding (keep that in mind - they'll be with you the entire day).
We just had our engagement pics done by JEssica Blaine Smith of Toronto.She was AMAZING. We are sooo happy with the finished product and I totally wish we could afford to fly her to NS for our wedding next year! Not to mention the fact that my very shy fiance and I were both totally comfortable with her... we felt like she was a friend taking our pictures, not a stranger. Definitely check her out...just google her name and you'll find her site.
