It will be three weeks before I can tell you what the results were, but keep the guesses coming... and any other breeds you think are welcome!
He acts so much like a boxer, in the way he plays... but his mouth looks very dane, but his eyes and head shape look very pitt, but body wise, he's rather tall for a pitt, but too heavy boned for a boxer... lol It's a mystery that we are so excited to have solved! :)
He's a cutie, no matter what his breed is. I can't wait until we get a dog!
He's adorable. I definitely see pit bull, but I also see some great dane in there too. He's got those cute, sad eyes like a great dane.
I voted Pit Bull, but I think he's probably an American Pit Bull Terrier/Boxer cross. Just be aware though that the tests aren't always the most accurate and only tell you what breed it could be out of the ones they've actually mapped out.
I think his body looks like a pit bull, but his face has some rottweiler characteristics...
I voted Great Dane because of his eyes and jowls, but he must have pit in him from somewhere. He could not be cuter!
This is so fun! I think he has a lot of boxer, for sure! We got my girl's DNA tested and I was SHOCKED, she is mostly yorkie and husky, with some papillon and aeradale terrier! I was like, NO WAY!
I can't wait to see what yours really is! Here is my husky/yorkie/papillon/aeridale:
I was also going to do this with one of my rescues and was told by multiple sources including a vet that these tests are inaccurate. What was basically explained to me was that they can not determine the breed from DNA and that so many breeds were a combination of other breeds that was far as DNA is concerned it's basically impossible to determine. DNA can determine lineage in the sense that they can determine if a dog sired another dog, etc.
Since many breeds all originated by crossing other breeds together, I would think that no matter what your dog would come back as a mix of this/that and this/that when he's supposed to be classified as a purebred. I also googled a while back and came across someone that did the test on their purebred something or other and it came back as a mix of x,y,z.
If I had to guess I'd say boxer and/or pit mix. The big forehead makes me think pit, but the loose jowls scream boxer to me.
Just a disclaimer: this dna test is soley for entertainment purposes! We realize there is a wide range of innacuracy, however, we're very interested and it will be interesting to see if the test throws a COMPLETE curveball, like chihuahua or st. bernard. lol that would be hilarious!
Love everyone's ideas so far!
I voted Pitt! We had our dog tested and it was so fun to find out! Let us know!
He is colored like a pit but his body structure looks just like a boxer and so does his face. His chest looks like a boxers usually but not all times pit bulls chest are wider than his. But he is tooo cute love his color! Here is a picture of my female pit and one of my female boxer.
He's so cute! I voted for pit, but I think there could be some boxer in there too!
i have an american pit and she has the exact same build as him - american pits are a longer leaner breed of pit bull
i definitely vote pit!
I'm voting there is NO Rottie or Dane in him at all...I don't see the foreheads for it.
For what he IS? Umm...I'd guess he's all Pit and no boxer. While the coloring may suggest it, I'm still thinking he's probably 100% Pit. Since Pits are so commonly bred and inbred for fighting nowadays, they vary in their color, shape, and size. And the head, ears, and jaw suggest Pit Bull.
If the test that you used doesn't have Pit Bull in their database, they'll come out with some CRAZY combination that will make you laugh (like you said, chihuahua-spaniel-mastiff-daschund mix). LOL. My friend had his fox hound tested, and it came back something crazy impossible like that, 15% of each. It was funny.
i vote dane boxer! which would be a sassy boys name if this were the baby board.
I'd guess mostly pit bull but beyond that I have no idea!
@Mighty - Pit bulls aren't more phenotypically varied because they're being bred (or inbred) for fighting. Their breed standard just doesn't put as much emphasis on appearance. Same with border collies, like these two.

They look very different but their worthiness of representing the breed is based on working ability, not appearances. Even the AKC, who puts nearly all emphasis on phenotype says that with Border Collies "Color and markings are always secondary to physical evaluation and gait."
Compared to, say Dobermans who must be "Black, red, blue, and fawn (Isabella). Markings: Rust, sharply defined, appearing above each eye and on muzzle, throat and forechest, on all legs and feet, and below tail. White patch on chest, not exceeding ½ square inch, permissible. Disqualifying Fault: Dogs not of an allowed color."
I don't mean to get all preachy on you, it's mostly that I just learned all this myself when I started to look into Border Collies. I always thought "proper" ones had to look like the dogs in Babe. Turns out they can be about any color, even yellow and can range from 35 to 65 lbs!
My guy's a Boxer Mastiff; no pit and he looks somewhat similar;
so id say BOXER MASTIFF!
haha
@myself - lol My brain is so full of Border Collies these days I forgot to mention the number one reason pit bulls come in such a wide variety of size, shapes and colors: they're not actually a breed! Wow. A gap like that you'd think it was either Monday morning or Friday afternoon! I have no excuse. :-)

I've posted about Sam before, he came to the shelter in horrible condition, after months of rehab he was a healthy strong boy!
Well after a year of being adopted his owner decided to get him DNA tested, and we were all interested to see what his breeds would be... While we're waiting for the results lets take a poll:
What do YOU think?
