@UpstateCait: That SUCKS!  A few years ago, some douchebag cloned my credit card and partied it up at NBA All-Star weekend.  I checked my statement online and saw that there were a couple of $500-plus bar tabs in New Orleans, and I’d never even been there.  Luckily I wasn’t liable for any of the charges, but as far as I know the thieving bastard got away with it.  Hopefully they’ll catch the scumbag who stole from you!  Any idea where they got your card number?  I suspect that mine was skimmed at this shady gas station down the street.

Ugh!!!!  That happened to me last spring with TD Bank.  Apparently I bought a car in Saudi Arabia.

Who knew!

I am so sorry, I know exactly how much that sucks.  It was my debit card and I don’t have credit cards so I was sort of stuck for a week or two while we sorted it out.

Good luck!!!

That does suck! Same exact thing happened to DH’s card! Remember if you have auto-payments on the card to change them, we forgot about that after we cancelled it and got denied at the gym

@UpstateCait: Have you made any purchases at Michael’s lately? I remember seeing an article a few days ago about how some douchebags had tampered w/ the card machines at lots of different Michael’s locations throughout the country. A whole buuuuuuuunch of ppl’s info had been stolen, and they racked up charges all over the place.  Sorry, too lazy right now to search for the article, but I’m sure you could google it.

This happened to me back in high school! I learned to only keep $5 in my bank account because my bank doesn’t allow overdrafting, so no fees… the card just says declined. This way I just transfer over the amount of money I’ll need for whatever from savings and put back anything left over. If anyone gets my card information they won’t be able to go anywhere but mcdonalds! ๐Ÿ™‚

@UpstateCait:  Yup.  I saw a pending transaction for around $1,600.00 and immediately called… after checking it when getting declined at Subway for lunch.  There was a transaction for like 37 cents where they ‘test’ the card, then the big hit.

Apparently they tried 2 other times but it was declined (because it was my debit card and you know I don’t really have millions floating around in my checking account ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

I caught it about an hour before TD Bank called me to say they had canceled my card.  When they were researching it they said the transaction showed to be at a car dealership.  Then the person asked me if I had bought a new car.  UMMM, I THINK I would have remembered that ๐Ÿ™‚

It ended up being charges from Saudi Arabia and after many, many phone calls and almost a week, they put the money back in my account.  I had to fill out a TON of paperwork and while they said they’d follow up with me on the outcome, they never did.

I totally forgot to change a lot of my bill paying stuff which was annoying for the next month or two, but thankfully it all got straightened out.

I never did figure out where my info was taken from, but the likely culprits were a gas station on Everett Rd in Albany that I didn’t use often or the MENSA website.  I ordered a game and the next day it happened.  Who knows.

Good luck to you guys!

@UpstateCait: OMG me too!!! Someone in Redondo Beach, CA has been having a helluva lot of fun with my debit card too – -$2678 worth of damn fun!!! I signed into my account yesterday morning to check my funds and was shocked as hell. I had to cancel my card and change my bank account info. The whole blasted mess completely threw a monkey wrench in my plans. While I was there, VISA called my bank to tell them that my info had been compromised bya merchant. After spending the whole day today re-doing all my bills that come out automatically, an agent from Progressive (car insurance) asked me if I had shopped at Michael’s recently, which was yes. She let me know that Michael’s is replacing all the debit card /pin pad machines because they had been compromised. Some jack off programmed them somehow to feed information back to them in CA and from that they have been creating fake debit cards and making withdrawals from people’s accounts!!! AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH so freakin pissed. I HATE THIEVES!!!!
