a vintage birdcage is always beautiful...
Just had to post that my FI and I spent a new years eve and day at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver and it was absolutely stunning. I love that place! If anything... rent a room and use the bathroom trash despencer for the cards- the place is that nice!- hahah
supperclubs used to have cigarette girls. You could use a tray like the girls wore but people may not get the connection if it is used on its' own.
you could use a large martini glass
a cigar box
You could use a handpainted card box from Etsy. They will paint it to fit your wedding theme.
Cute idea! Maybe you could personalize the box by putting putting pics of you and your FI on it. It would be cute for the guest to see when they put the cards into the box.
You could also get copies of vintage posters printed and use them to paper a square box.
Here's an old post with some great guestbook alternative ideas, just in case any might work for you.

Help me, Hive!!! I'm getting married on 12-31-11 in downtown Denver, CO at The Brown Pa. This is a destination wedding for us and our guests. Instead of a guestbook, I had postcards printed on Zazzle.com with vintage images (wedding, Colorado/Denver, NYE and party images) and our names/wedding date on the back. We are going to put these out with a pen, so that guests can write messages to us on the backs of the postcard. I'm trying to think of something guests can put the completed cards in, that's keeping with our vintage theme and isn't too expensive. I've thought of hatboxes and cigar boxes... but I'm not in love with either idea. Does anyone have any advice/ideas? Our theme is vintage supperclub (with a modern twist), and our colors are pewter gray, gold, and bright plum.
