people kept asking me my color.  Dh’s aunt, especially.  i told her she would have to wait until the wedding.  i think she wanted to wear one of the wedding colors.

@marie_antoinette:  Usually they are asking for one of two reasons: 1) if they are close family they want to wear colors that are complementary to the wedding colors so they look good in the family photos; and 2) lots of guests do not want to wear the color as the bridesmaids/groomsmen.

A few years ago I had to discourage my husband from wearing a hot pink tie to a friend’s wedding because I noticed her invitations were hot pink and I figured the groomsmen would be wearing hot pink and I didn’t want him mistaken for a groomsman.  Sure enough, they were wearing hot pink and in his dark suit, my husband would have matched the bridal party exactly.

If you don’t want them to know the exact colors, give them a few complementary colors they can wear.

I had a bunch of people ask, too! It was SO bizarre!

I was like “You’ve been dressing yourself for 30 years… I’m pretty confident you can handle it!”

And aside from one chick who wore jeans, everyone dressed themselves appropriately!

I texted a friend to ask what color the bridesmaids were wearing so I wouldn’t wear that. I say be honest with them. If you’d prefer they wear bright colors that photograph well, tell them. If you’d prefer they wear neutrals, say that. If they ask that means they want an answer.

Etiquette Snob here… lol

This is a more recent trend… asking.

And it comes down to what @beachbride1216:  said…

Either because the Guests want to wear one of your Wedding Colours… or because they don’t want to.

Honestly this wasn’t a problem when I got married the first time (circa 1980) people just wore whatever they wanted (mind you everyone did adhere to the nice courtesy of NO WHITE / LITE and NO BLACK back then out of respect for the Bride)

The only people who ever knew a Bride’s Colour Scheme before the Wedding were the Bridesmaids and immediate family (on a need to know basis).

So for the Formals, people were dressed at least complimentary to the colour scheme

So if the Bride’s colours were Pink & Dusty Rose (soooo 1980s) then the MOB & MOG might come in shades of Lilac / Purple / Grape etc.

Hope this helps,

I’ve asked brides what color their bms are wearing bc I didn’t want to match.

I’ve had a few people ask.. and both my MIL and mom want me to pick their colors to wear.

I just tell them the colors are white & black with accents of pink.
