Most main characters are to some degree morally ambiguous, so you get to pick your own hero.

generally speaking– Starks are good, Daenerys is good. Lannisters are bad (except Tyrion).

@fiver:  Not always.  Sometimes they just get maimed or lose everyone they love instead.

@Soon2BD-CBee:

Noo, that was more of a joke. I’ve read all the books and plenty of my favorite characters are still alive— its just very brutal storytelling, main characters and people you lest expect die frequently.

@Soon2BD-CBee:  nooooooo. At least not yet. My favorite character from book one has lived (so far) but I’m not revealing who 🙂

I understand the confusion- the first time I watched the 1st season I kept checking Wikipedia because I was so confused by the huge cast. But dont read it too much- spoilers! Read the books!

Yep. Everyone I loves dies. Also i know i shouldnt….but I think jamie lanisters a hottie. Dont Judge me. Id say starks are good. Lanisters are bad (some worse than others). Theres so many characters with so many layers you cant really peg alot of characters as good or bad. They all want the same thing. THe iron throne. Just watch and enjoy.

@Soon2BD-CBee:  The short of it?  George RR Martin is a magnificent bastard.

Every twist will be properly foreshadowed.  Even the crazy stuff will have subtle bread crumbs that will make a second viewing full of “omg, why didn’t I see that?”

If you start to root for anyone their likelihood of death, dismemberment, or angst goes up substantially.

It’s a blast and it’ll take you on quite the roller coaster ride emotionally.

I had not read the books before watching season 1.  It took me until about episode 4 or 5 when I could start remembering some of the characters names instead of just “hey, that guy!”

@Soon2BD-CBee:  just keep going! It is such a huge cast of characters and several different story lines at once during Season 1, but it starts to come together more as the seasons progress. It my all time favorite show!
