We are starting to think about where we want to take our honeymoon and are leaning towards somewhere on the gulf coast so we can drive there. We’ve been considering Pensacola, Destin, Panama City, and Gulf Shores. As I have never been to any of those places, does anyone have any advice on where would be the best place to go? We’re open to other places I didnt mention as well.

I voted for Panama City, just because I’ve heard good things. I’ve never actually been though. *sigh*

In Florida, I like Navarre Beach…it’s near Pensacola and it’s very pretty and more secluded/less spring-breaky.
If I were honeymooning on the Gulf Coast I’d go to the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama. It’s beautiful and historic and very luxurious (even though it was purchased by Marriott). I’ve been going there my whole life but it still always feels special.

@spicyshimmer: Out of the four places in your poll, I would say Destin! I haven’t been to Pensacola, though. Both Destin and Panama City can be crowded and touristy, but I prefer Destin. Panama City is too spring breaky for me. Destin has tons of lovely places to stay and eat.
More recently I’ve gone to St. George Island and Cape San Blas (both in FL). There seems to be not as many restaurants at those places and they are less touristy overall, but the beaches are beautiful. There are a couple nearby towns with fun little downtown areas (Applachicola and Carrabelle) with some places to eat.
You could also look into Alys Beach, FL. It’s between Destin and Panama City. I only stayed there for a weekend, but it was very quaint.

@spicyshimmer: I’ve been to Panama and I just don’t feel like it is a great honeymoon place. What are you looking for in a honeymoon site?

@spicyshimmer: I live on the Gulf Coast and have made beach vacations many times. I suggest Gulf Shores, then Destin. I suggest the Phoenix West condos. That’s the last place I stayed and it was so homey and comfortable! It’s even got a lazy river 🙂

@Sazerac: oh my gosh, that place looks beautiful! We’ll definitely consider, thanks!
@ShinyKitty: Thank you for all the suggestions. I will look into them for sure. I was a little apprehensive about Panama since I know it’s such a popular spring break destination. Does it have that same atmosphere all year round?
@swisea01: For our honeymoon really all we want is a beautiful beach where we can relax and enjoy some good food and cocktails and bask in our newlyweddedness! (I may have just made up a word.)
@ceebree: Thanks! Those condos look awesome!

I’ve never been to Gulf Shores but I’ve been to the others. I would highly suggest Destin.

@spicyshimmer: Have you considered going farther south? The area around sarasota and bradenton are beautiful. I am having my wedding in that area

I’ve only been to Destin, so that’s what I voted for. It was beautiful.

@spicyshimmer: Probably not, but I’ve only been to Panama City in the middle of the summer when it was super busy. I’ve been to Destin in the off season (January) and it was kind of dead. Restaurants close earlier and such, so you just have to plan around that. It was fun that everything was less crowded.

@swisea01: I suppose we could consider something further south, though we wanted to keep it within a reasonable distance to drive. I’ll have to do some investigation with google maps to see what is doable.
