(Closed) gumpaste flowers on cake: wire or no wire?

@dotdotdot:  I’ve made (attempted) gumpaste flowers before. The wire gives the petals something to anchor to, and also helps stick the flowers into the cake. Sometimes it has beads or pearls at the end to look like the stamens of the flowers.  I don’t think it really matters either way, as gum paste dries hard and I consider it completely inedible.

The flowers are removed before cutting the cake.  You can order them with wire, but if you insert the wires into the cake, you need to put a straw or coffee stirrer in the cake first – the wires aren’t always food safe.
