I absolutely just want to die when i look at myself in this dress.
It is the worst feeling ever. Every time i go put on the sample, i LOVE it.
The champagne color, the ivory lace overlay, the detailing on the bodice, the flower sash with the feather. I love it all. It is so perfect.
But that shape. That POOF. Now i know the sample is 10 inches too long and that might be toying with my mind a little bit. I'm not sure since the dress hasnt came in yet. Soon she'll be here though.
I've already went back in to the salon, put the sample back on and talked with an alterations lady about what i could do with the shape. NOTHING. I dont know if she was dumb or what, because i really feel that SOMETHING should be able to fix this dress. Maybe A-line isnt for me. And the thing to fix this dress is the right bride.
Yep. You guessed it. Dress Regret.

what about a crinoline or hoop or something underneath? that will keep the shape for you. and find another seamstress. there has to be something that will fix it! don't sell it!
@vreelans: I think this dress looks absolutely stunning on you. From bust to hem, it's soooo perfect! I'm not sure I see what you're talking about with the shape, because I think it's beatiful!!!
I can't believe your thinking of selling it! I think it looks amazing. And it won't be so poofy when it's not so long on you.
I dont know! Waaah.
I keep being afraid of that a-line shape, of course. And i worry if itll go well with the rest of the wedding that ive planned and envision! Themes colors groomsmen bridesmaid. WAH WAH WAH.
Boo :(( love hate relationship =/
Give it a chance! You look so beautiful and happy in the photos.
I just don't understand why you feel dress regret. Not only the dress is amazingly beautiful but you look gourgeous in it.
Oh my god. That dress is absolutely stunning!!! If i was anywhere near ready to buy a dress I would definitely take it off your hands haha. You look absolutely amazing in it. Not really sure where you see the shape problems but I guess if you aren't happy then you need to look for something else.
Oh! I think it looks awesome! I understand, though - if you don't love it, you don't love it. I would try to find something you like better first, before you try to sell the first one, just in case!
I love that dress! I never got to try it on myself but you look amazing in it!
You look fabulous in that dress! I immediately LOVED it when I saw it on you. You look stunning. Don't sell it!!!
what don't you like about it? i think it looks beautiful on you!
I think the dress looks lovely and when it's hemmed for your height it should fall a little straighter. It looks like it's stretched out in those pictures due to the length of the dress. If you were standing on a pedestal or box it'd look different.
In any case, I'm pretty sure you can take some poof out of that dress if you wanted to. You'd have to see what's going on underneath, but if you want it a little closer to the body I'm sure it's possible. Even if have to take all the built in poof out, you could always add in a separate pettycoat to add some shape back in.
Dude, that dress is super duper cute!!!!! There's gotta be something you can do to get it more in line with what you want... I say go to another seamstress and get a second opinion!
I think it looks fabulous on you! I found my dress felt so much poufier on than it looked in pictures--maybe that's the case with yours. It looks beautiful in the photo! If there's crinoline under the dress, a good seamstress should be able to remove it.
I suffered from dress regret too for a bit (it's tough seeing all these gorgeous dresses on the Bee!) but I think it may pass once it's altered to fit you. Your dress is gorgeous and very flattering. Plus, it can be a huge hassle to sell a dress and find a new one. If I were you, I'd stick with this one!
You love the dress so much, can't you make everything else work around it? Theme, colors, etc?
I think it is beautiful but I totally understand! I am in the process of working with my dress store to see about getting a different dress. I am starting to absolutely HATE me dress(never even really liked it!), so I totally understand where you are coming from!
@jumpthegun: i picked my bridesmaid dresses before my gown.
Now even though this is a size 4 and absolutely not the size i needed (i couldnt take pictures of the back because my buttcheeks were out for the world to see!) i feel like this was MUCH more what i am looking for. less traditional. more laid back. more shabby chic.'
@vreelans: The first dress looks SO much better!
With the dress you just posted, all the decor on the chest brings the eyes STRAIGHT to your boobs. It's really the only think I see when I look at it.
Whereas the fist dress looks absolutely stunning on you.
Stick with the first dress, you look amazing.
@vreelans: I think the first dress could be altered to be less A-line, and more modified A-line by the right seamstress.
The 2 dresses have a similar "feel" its just the shape that is different.
I would honestly stick with the 1st dress! I think it suits you really well, and with the right alterations (you could even get the seamstress to cut down on the train completely) I think you'll love it again if you stop looking at other dresses.
@vreelans: I like the first dress better. I agree with @eagle: that you can have the first dress altered some. Have it taken in a little bit around the thigh area to be less A line.
I may be interested in buying your dress if you're selling. What size is it?
@msaliegmom: It is a 12. I fit into the 10 sample, but the ladies suggested to order the size up. It'll be absolutely unaltered and right from the store. When is your wedding? (The Mori Lee 1612 is not in just yet, but was ordered months ago so shouldnt be much longer!) I am 5'2 and the hollow to hem is 58 inches instead of the sample thats 61 inches.
I would buy it from you if it was the white style. I love that dress. I bought a different one, but I'm in love with that one... I hate decisions!!!
I just have to put my two cents in - the Mori Lee is beyond gorgeous on you. I love the shape the way it is, but if you want it less A-line, they should be able to bring it in through the hips and thighs. I was going to have that done if I bought a different dress that I had liked. And, I must say, I like it 100 times more than the slimmer dress you posted. Just my opinion, you look gorgeous! Good luck.
the second dress reallllly flatters you!!!! aaaaannd if you dont LOVE your dress, then get a new one! sell the old one! its your day, and the 1 thing you NEED to LOVE is your DRESS!!!! :) You look amazing in both, BUT i think the 2nd one really looks amazing on your body! :)
Honestly, I like the second one for you. I can see how the first one is flattering but a bit too poofy and for us short gals poofy is so not flattering. If it could be less poofy without ruining the dress, try it. As long as you're happy with the decision and have no regrets, that is all that should matter.
And no I don't have my dress. I haven't even tried on anything yet but I do know the goal is to try on something that doesn't have a lot of poof and that is flattering. I'll be trying on something similar to the second dress you posted, if they have it by the time I am able to dress shop (early Jan.).
The First one is so flattering on you. The side pic of you is breathtaking....
Take some of the poof layers out from under the dress, that should help with the "poof" also getting hemmed up to fit your hight will help greatly.
I am sorry, but the second dress is a hot mess. All I see is Boobs, and it kinda looks like the curtians on my grandmas wall.....
I love the first dress on you so much! It looks like it was made for you! The second dress looks nice but not as great as the first one. However, if you want something more laidback and less traditional, the second dress works very well. You would look beautiful in either dress on your wedding day.
I love the 1st one, it looks grea ton you. I am not a fan of the top of the 2nd one. But that's just my opinion, you have to go with what you love.
thank you so much ladies. all of your opinions are calming :)
the lady at the salon in the alterations saying there are many layers of crinoline under it but taking it out wouldnt affect the shape or poof much.
and ive also changed my mind on the 2nd alvina valenta gown. i do still love it, but theres a new style that is exactly what im looking for - and has the lacey part from dress 1. best of both worlds!
i do think dress 1 is so pretty. and every time i put it on i think its gorgeous. but i can not stand to look at any picture of myself in it. i just shudder. and i dont want to not love my wedding photos or hate seeing pictures from our day in the house because i cant stop thinking that dress looks awful on me =/
I think the first dress is wayyyyyy more pretty than the other!!! I personally think that shape looks amazing on you.
I love love love the way you look in the Mori Lee... Please don't sell it! I don't buy what this seamstress says about not being able to fix the poof... Seamstresses can work magic with dresses in ways that blow the mind. Heck, my MOM (who is not a professional) can do wonderful things to alter dresses. Second opinion??
I LOVE the first dress. I think it's much prettier and more flattering on you than the second one you posted.
