@cantonbride:  I answered this on another thread, just gonna copy/paste 🙂

My FI’s engagement ring is titanium an his wedding band is tungsten. So I should be able to help you! 🙂

Titanium is beautiful and extremely lightweight. You can hardly feel it on your hand. It’s nearly indestructible and a good classic choice. However it is not scratch resistant! FI’s ring started to scratch almost immediately after he started wearing it. It offers a nice textured look which I don’t mind, but Fiance doesn’t like it and chose against titanium for his wedding band.

Tungsten is a very heavy metal. Fiance loves the substantial weight on his finger – that’s something for you to judge, whether or not your Fiance will want a heavy ring. It is scratch resistant and beautifully shiny. It is also nearly indestructible, but when it is ruined, it shatters. Our jeweler told us that they’ve had two tungsten rings break – one just got hit in the wrong way and shattered, the other got caught in machinery and actually saved the man’s hand! Keep in mind that it cannot be resized.

Another thing you should know about tungsten – the super cheap ones on amazon etc. have very little percentage of tungsten – as low as 3%. This means that they will break easier, have much less shine, and will lose their color within a matter of years. We invested in a more expensive one ($200) that is patented 85% tungsten and are happy with the choice.

So I guess it’s up to these two decisions on your part:

  • Would your Fiance prefer a lightweight ring or a substantially weighted ring?

  • Does your Fiance want a ring that will stay scratch-free forever, or will he like the texture of an increasingly scratched ring?

Let me know if you have any more questions! 🙂

Also if you want a ring from JVL Jewelry (they specialize in tungsten but also sell titanium) for a discount, I can hook you up. Not kidding. We won 4 wedding bands from them (4! What the heck!) at a bridal faire. So we could sell one of your choice to you for waaay cheaper.I’m pretty sure their lifetime warranty would also transfer to you. So if you want!
