I am currently a preschool teacher, and Monday my class had 5 kids, and another left with a fever in the afternoon.  5 came in when I should have had like 13!!! Not all are H1N1, likely, but I do know of several parents that have confirmed it.  AHHHHH - I am so paranoid about getting sick!  Yesterday in the whole center like 30 kids were out!

What are you all doing to stay healthy this year?

Don't put your purse on the floor! Pleanty of people end up with fecal matter (poop) on their shoes. Eww! I've been washing my hands a lot more and getting extra sleep, too! I'm trying to to get too stressed since that's when the sicknesses try to get you-when you're stressed and tired. I hope you stay healthy!

Hand washing is so important. And while I'm not a HUGE fan of the H1N1 virus shot (heck, I don't even get the regular flu vaccine) I'm thinking it wouldn't be a bad idea for you to consider it!

I am washing my hands more and being better about putting my hands in my mouth (I have a bad habit of biting my nails, but I'm trying to STOP IT). I also got a flu shot for the first time, am trying to get enough sleep, am drinking 8 cups of water/day for the first time in my life, and take vitamins every morning.

So far this season I've been health (knock on wood!!) and bf has been sick twice, so I must be doing something right :)

Wash hands and eat well.  Maybe take a multi-vitamin.  Not much else you can do, but hope that working with kids has given you a strong immune system.

Lots of hand washing, lots of hand sanitizer, trying really hard to not touch my face/eyes/mouth/nose, got my seasonal flu shot 2 weeks ago and am getting the H1N1 shot next week (I'm on the priority list because I'm pregnant).

I REALLY do not want to get the flu this year!

I'm in desperate search for the H1N1 vaccine.  I already got my seasonal flu vaccine.  I wear an N95 (hepa filter) mask for every patient with a fever and flu-like symptoms. I purell like crazy and NEVER touch my face.  I've got some bug now, but tested negative for H1N1... so knock on wood... so far so good...

purell, soap, vitamins, eating healthy, sleep, not touching things in public w/o washing my hands (and keeping my hands out of my mouth/off my face). It's easier for me b/c i live alone and haven't been around kids or groups of people too much. But i'll be on an airplane quite a bit Oct/Nov so i"ll be purelling it up

Personally, I think this H1N1 thing has been blown way out of proportion. Lots of people die every year from the regular flu too - it's all about good hygiene and that people who are sick should stay home. Other than that, eat veggies and fruit (with a well balanced diet). drink water, use Purell and exercise. Oh, and don't freak out over it :)

Simple solution.  Wash. Your. Hands. Properly.   Meaning soap, water, and the adequate amount of friction.

Bella- at my hospital there are 4 pregnant women on the OB ward right now with H1N1 and one of them is on a ventilator.  This is a significant pathogen for certain high risk groups including children and pregnant women.

Yes, most people will recover really well from this illness, but there are certain groups having a really hard time with it and we're not yet sure what things are triggering the most severe reactions in these people.

I think there is nothing wrong with being prepared and being prudent.  It just makes sense.

Vitamin C, D, probiotics, lots of hand washing and NOT touching my face!

Whenever I feel the merest hint of something coming on, I take an extra vitamin D and take ester C, 500 mg. every 4 hours. It has never failed to stop whatever dead in its tracks. And I haven't had a cold or flu since 1993!

So weird that while I've read so many scrambling for the H1N1 vaccine, there are a lot of people here who resist the idea of getting vaccinated.  I'm in the the health care world and you wouldn't believe how many refuse to get the vaccine.

Yes I think H1N1 is being blown out of proportion but I plan to side with caution.  There was a study released saying women between the ages of 25-40 are high risk (article failed to mentioned how many in the study was pregnant or had pre-existing health conditions).  If I recall, people were saying SARS was overtyped and look what it did to Toronto.

Lots of handwashing but stay clear of anyone showing symptoms.  H1N1 is airborne so stay clear of anyone sneezing or coughing a lung!
