Ugh!! This is just a vent because I’m sure my DH is sick of hearing about it. I had my first interview with one of two midwives in my area. When I was making the appointment the girl on the phone said most likely someone would not come out to my house because it was more than 10 min from the office…umm okay. She said to come in and talk with the midwife anyways.
I had to leave work suspiciously in the middle of the day for this appointment. It was a 25 minute drive. SHE WAS 30 MINUTES LATE!!!! Now I know there are babies to be born and what not but she was upstairs the whole time I was there, not with a client. Just on the phone. So I was quite pissed about that.
I had to fill out 5 pages of paperwork along with an essay style questionaire about why I wanted a homebirth. When she finally comes in I hand the papers to her and she doesn’t even read them just sets them aside. She asks me if I wanted to ask her something so I said yes will you be able to come to my house? I shit you not this is what she said…
“Since you are a first time mom and will be delivering in sept/oct I won’t be able to come to your house. I am simply to busy and you need to go see x midwife in z city. She can help you.” Bees I am only 5 weeks. I was told on the phone I was the first oct mama to call.
I am just so pissed she wasted my time and hers when I could have just been told over the phone that she didn’t want to be bothered driving the 25 minutes to my house. Thankfully I have a meeting with midwife #2 and she has already verbally agreed that she does indeed drive to my location. Vent over.

@princessbelle: I can’t make any sense out of her actions! I’m guessing either she or her office staff doesn’t have their facts straight with what’s going on for her schedule in October. Either way, I totally wouldn’t trust her with the birth of my child. FX for a better experience with midwife #2!

@princessbelle: Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t want her guiding me through pregnancy! Laour, especially a home birth, can be super risky and you need someone you can put your trust in – I don’t think it’s this woman. Here’s hoping midwife number 2 is a great fit.

PITA now, but thank GOODNESS you didn’t make her your caregiver and find out what a crappy caregiver she is, later!
Good luck with the second midwife… She can’t really be worse!

When I was looking into a homebirth I had some similiar experiences. The midwives I would talk to would make me come in to see them before they told me they coudnt travel that far or they were too booked. I really dont understand why they cant tell us this over the phone. It would save everyone time.

Ugh, better to be rid of her sooner than later!

Thanks everyone it makes me feel better to know I’m not crazy for being upset. I really am hoping the interview on thursday goes well because if it doesn’t I can throw my homebirth hopes out the window since there are no other midwives.
Thursday can’t come fast enough I just want to be rid of all this bad energy from my crappy experience.

Well, even as a midwife I’m scratching my head about this one…..we work very differently here so I can’t understand at all why she would bother having you come to the office just to then tell you she can’t provide care to you. Seems crazy. I would be super annoyed too! I hope you have better luck with the next midwife.

Ugh, some people are so stupid. I would’ve told her, thanks for wasting my time!
