Omg I just got mine removed last week and I had super strong nails and longer than now:((( They SUCK! I will never get them again! Take prenatals and 5000mcg of Biotin. Thats how mine got strong. I had to cut my beautiful nails off:(

right after I got them taken off. Now they are short and yucky:( This is my wedding day color and I wanted to try it out.

Just be gentle with your hands and go get a mani every month!

What method did the nail place use to get them off?

Ive been getting Gel for a while now and love, love love it. When i got in every few weeks to get them re done my lady will get remover soaked cotton and place little pieces on each nail and then wrap w/ foil. She leaves them on for about 10 min and then she uses this little tool that gently pushes away the polish that has gotten soft b/c of the remover. Before gel i had paper thin nails.. now when my get is off i have super strong nails. Not sure if its from the gel or not but I can’tthink of another reason why.

@sherryberry:  Well I got it for the holiday weekend. I wanted my polish to last and didn’t think they would hurt them that bad. She removed them properly and even commented how nice my nails were. Then that night they began breaking. I had to file all them down. Sad. So I will ONLY get a clear one over my polish a cpl days before my wedding bc it does last for sure. I am a bartender so my polish chips way fast. I do not want my nails all chipped a cpl days before the wedding. I will have to work til that Tuesday and our wedding is Thurs. I am hoping I can have them paint with my OPI color shown above then put clear gel on top. Until Dec. I will just get good ol mani’s and regular polish. I usually just paint my toes bc nails are a waste to me. Chips off the next day at work.

@ReyDar64:  She buffed the gel with a filer, then soaked them, used a cuticle pusher to scrape it off then gave me a mini mani. Nothing horrible and I asked my hair girl if that was a good way and she said yes. Even online said so….

@sherryberry:  The grinder thing is a big no no, thats what takes layers of strength away from your nail. ๐Ÿ™

Have you tried shellac instead of gel?

It’s still UV light cured so it is dry right away and the mani’s usually last 2 weeks, but they soak off in acetone (without any of the grinding/buffing).

I’ve had 3 shellac manicures now and my nails are still strong and the polish really lasts and stays looking nice for 2 weeks.

The main reason you have to get them redone after 2 weeks is because your nail growth starts to show.

This is why I hate gel nails! I mean, I love HAVING them because they look so nice but whenever you decide to remove them, your natural nails are destroyed. I have really strong nails naturally but after having gel nails my own nails were brittle and I had bumps on my nail surface from where my nails had been grinded down. It took months for my nails to get back to normal again.
