I wanted to "prepare" because I am planning on getting one before the wedding. I never had one before and I got lots of good advice from you, bee's! I heard: take pain medication before, have a glass of wine before, exfoliate afterwards, the pain decreases after the frist time.

So, I took 800mg of Ibuprophin and had about a half glass of wine. I was actually pretty giggly. Maybe it wasn't "safe", but it ended up fine.

First, I asked for a brazilian but they said "there's very few places in this area that do the brazilian". All she could do was remove the hair on top (front) and right along my "thigh line". So I said, Ok, it's better than nothing.

One of my BM's came with, she sat right next to me the whole time, she made it bearable. I don't know what I would have done without her! Even though I was exposed to her, she totally loved it.

So-- Pain factor- eeek. Along the thigh-line, it was like "ooh" like, "well that's completely bearable!" BUT, the further she went towards the middle of the top (front), the worse the pain got. It was completely unbearable on about 3 strips. And sometimes she had too much wax and she had a hard time pulling it off- so I bet you can imagine what that was like! She also had to tweeze a few hairs, and that was worse sometimes than the waxing.

Overall, the pain wasn't as bad as I expected. I was pleased. I was, however, left very sticky and she said to use baby oil to remove the rest of the stickiness. I didn't swell at all, I was sort of red, but that's it. Pain afterwards was very minimal and I felt like it never eveb happened close to an hour after it was over. I do have some small bumps, but I think exfoliating will take care of them.

BUT. I look like a prepubescant 8 year old. And that freaks me out. Usually I shave inbetween my legs and trim the top (front), so I do not look like an 8 year old. I feel very perverted, and I think that it's gross that men hate pubic hair so much, that they would rather us look like this. Why is it that looking like I haven't gone through puberty so aestetically pleaseing to men?? I haven't felt this smooth for about..12 years. It's weird and I want it to  grow back so I can go back to my regular routine. But it was a good experience and I'm glad I did it!

Sounds like it went pretty good over all...

My husband doesn't mind my pubic hair, in fact both he and I would rather that I don't wax completely...  friction would kill!

congrats on making it through your first time.  the first time is always the worse.  It sounds to me like you waxer wasn't very experienced if she had to go over the same spot more than once.  That's dangerous as it can tear off top skin layers and cause infections.  Next time look for someone else.

I get brazillians regularly and I love it.  I don't do it for FH, I do it for myself.  I just feel so much cleaner and lighter when I have everything waxed off.  But this is definitely a personal preference so to each her own.

@his bunny- FI agree's! He was fine with or without the complete removal. Thank God. I feel like this is going to suck when it starts growing back in...

I'm w/ Meowkers...although the hubs likes the brazillian, I love how much cleaner I feel when I get one.  I was super nervous the first time I went to get one (didn't take any advil or anything), and then when it was all over, I was like, "Seriously?  That's it?  THAT'S what women cry and moan about?"  lol  But in general, I tend to have a very high pain tolerance, so that could be why it wasn't that big of deal.

I'm totally with you!  I think it's weird when I see myself like that...I go back and forth, and sometimes I have hair there and sometimes I don't.  I have serious issues with the idea that THAT'S the most pleasing thing for men visually...that's a little creepy to me.  I've been told it's not just the visual, there's a physical appeal to it as well....so that makes me feel a little better.  Sigh, I'm conflicted.  But I'm off topic!

I'm very glad that it wasn't as bad as you thought it was going to be!  They've never gotten any better for me, but I think it's just because I have super sensitive skin to begin with.  I get a wax and spend the next day with an ice pack on my crotch.  Charming, I know.

Good for you!! I LOVE them and will go through the pain to be hair free and clean, plus the boy likes it ;) The pain and hair regrowth gets better each time you go so keep it up!! Plus, the sex is better without the hair because of the sensitivity, so to me, that's a good reason to keep doing it, just sayin... :)

nlmiele - I had my first bikini wax 2 weeks ago and was super nervous, but my lady was super nice and gave me pointers as we went along. The growing out part isn't bad at all and definitely don't have that insane itch that's associated with shaving! I too am freaked out by the brazilian, but I'm doing a boudoir session so I'll have to do it that ONE time. Otherwise, I think I'm going to stick to my bikini wax!

I only do it someitmes, because it's so darn expensive (average $80) and the place that I went to didn't get all the hair off either. So I'm in the middle of looking for a new place to go to.

I love it, for myself.. It feels more clean - not that I'm gross otherwise; but it feels better!

Hubs likes it too, not too much for the looks, but for how it feels esp (sorry TMI) with oral "activities" down there... Hair in the mouth is not so cool.. I would feel very self concsious letting him go there otherwise.

I'm used to the look now, and can't even remember what it looked like before...
mind you, I started shaving for cleanliness while I was still going through puberty and years before I was even sexually active; then waxing and eventually decided I didn't want the trouble anymore so I just finished the brazilian laser...

You go girl! I SWEAR by waxing.

It has nothing to do with Mr. Seashell (though he's not complaining), I do it for me.

haha I am glad you ladies are all so supportive of the RIP. That's what I started calling it.

I am really liking the smoothness, but what sucks is that they left the hair that would be uh, "in the mouth". So.. I'm sort of like what's the point! But I really am enjoying how soft I am, I'm scared for the regrowth. How bad is it?

I want to get another one, but I wish I didn't have to feel like, as I said above, an 8 year old.. hm

I too feel a LOT cleaner when I'm all waxed (brazilian). Persian ladies are better at doing brazilian, so definitely search for one of them and you'll feel a lot less pain.

Here's a question...after you get it done, how long is it before you can go swimming? Keep in mind I'm not worried about a chlorine pool, but a salt water pool. I've noticed that I can't shave less than 24 hours in advance or else it hurts, bad.

I don't think men like you hairless because it makes you resemble a child, I think it has more to do with the fact that pubic hair gross lol.  Also, most of the women in porn are hairless, or very close to hairless.  I imagine most men see porn before they're intimate with someone, so they don't expect hair.  They fantasize to 'hairless' women.  kwim?

Glad your experience wasn't too painful!  As others said, it's suppose to get better each time.  Your hair shouldn't grown back as thick each time and it wont hurt as badly.  I'd really like to try one, but haven't had the chance yet!

I've never had one! I shave religiously, but I've never been able to justify spending $60 bucks on a brazilian when I could get the same effect for Zero dollars with a BIC razor.

And I totally agree with what @lilybee said! I think it has more to do with porn influence, rather than looking like a child. Also, it seems to be a generational thing. My mom is horrified that me and all my friends shave everything off-- her exact words were "LIKE A LITTLE GIRL????????" while gasping in shock, hahaha.

Congrats ;)  BUT I really think you should look for someone else.  My current waxer never uses too much wax, and she's NEVER had to tweeze any missed spots.  The pain is way, way less when you go to someone experienced.  Also, the place I go to applies high-grade aloe right after which really takes the pain out, and she leaves a big pump bottle of oil in the room when she leaves for me to get dressed so I can deal with the sticky before I put everything on.

LOL!!  that's weird you were told they wouldn't do a brazillian.  i got a bikini wax a few weeks ago in prep for the wedding/honeymoon as well and decided to go brazillain... girls, she waxed my butt!!  sorry to get detailed but wow i didn't expect it to go that far LOL!  but i'm glad she did, its true what some of the other girls say: it feels really clean.  i couldn't believe how smooth it was ha!  i got a bikini wax once before a couple years ago and it started to grow back within a week!  and they tell you it should last 2 or 3, and if you go regularly it lasts longer and grows in thinner each time.  well the lady i went to this time told me that it was because some of the hairs just broke instead of pulling out all the way, which can happen your first time because shaving makes the hair brittle.  So she took extra care to make sure it was done right and it lasted a good 2 weeks, and i go again on may 5th, and then again a few days before the wedding.  i am sure at that point it will last a full 3 weeks which will cover my wedding and the whole honeymoon yay!  i asked her to leave a small patch in front because i thought going completely bald would make me feel like a pre-pubescent 8 yr old too!  but i think i'm going to ignore that and have her take it all off next time cuz honestly with everything else being so naked the little patch looks like its lost LOL!!  so screw it, and if i dont like it then i'll ask her to leave a patch again when i go before the wedding.

Awesome posting :)  I have never done this but I really want to.  I shave everyday or so and never have issues, so I haven't tried waxing, but everyone that I talk to loves it....I love being completely bare down there (TMI, sorry) and I can't stand the idea of hair. Sometimes I'll do a strip, but that's about as much as I can get.   I personally think the feeling like a kid goes away after awhile :)  It turns into loving being all "clean."

Anyway, great post! I needed to here this info!  I think I'll try it!

I get them regularly and as PP have said- I do it for me, my FI says he doesn't care either way. I also agree that you seem to have had a really bad waxer unfortunately. If you are in the Philly area I can tell you a great one for Brazilians. Also, the more you do it the sparser your hair gets over time so it becomes less painful and you can go longer inbetween waxes.

JUST what I needed to read. I get my first one on Saturday, just for the heck of it.LOL My SO doesn't mind hair, but I try to keep it with a low fade, for his benefit for oral.

    Now I'm even more nervous.LOL

Sugaring hurts a lot less...and less of a mess. Any chance you have a salon near you that does that?

I'm not sure what you expected it to look like if you had all the hair removed, lol.

And your waxer didn't sound all that good, honestly.

@texaslawgirl, When i told my mom i got a brazilian, she said, "omg you look like a little girl? does he LIKE that?" and I could only imagine the look of horror on her face.

But seriously, I asked DH about this...he just said "it's hot"....just like back in the 80's, a full bush was hot. He said the older sargents in hi platoon would talk about how hot full bushes were, but they were older. Gah.

    He isn't turned on b/c i look like i'm 8....that's disgusting! I think it's more of a porn star thing. I guess, I dunno.

I think hair is gross though. I don't like it when DH cleans up because he looks like a kid, ya know?!?!?! I like it cuz it's CLEAN.

    I've gotten a few Brazillians.

I personally prefer the feel of it when it's freshed waxed - nice and smooth - LOL!

I'll probably do it again before we go on our HM.

Oh - and for anyone contemplating this - GO TO SOMEONE WHO SPECIALIZES IN WAXING.  Don't just hit up your local nail salon.  I'm pretty darn sure that is key as the lady who did me ONLY did bikini waxes and it really wasn't that painful and it was over in under 15 minutes.
