I'm glad the midwife was supportive, especially if you're facing resistance from your family. Glad to hear everything is going well!
Great to hear your apt. went well. My first apt. will be at 10 weeks also...and isn't until Sept 29 :( How are you feeling health wise?
I'm having that same issue with the natural childbirth! My family was very supportive but everyone else I mention it too tried to talk me out of it like its this crazy hippie thing. One of my co-workers actually asked me if i've "changed my mind yet." She thinks I'm going to have horrible problems and die in my house. lol (I'm going to have a natural homebirth) The midwife I'm using is super excited for me though. I hope yours goes well!
Overall I'm feeling pretty good. I have to watch what I eat, since some things don't sit well, but I feel pretty lucky to not be sick or really nauseated very often.
I'm learning that despite DH and I being super excited about things, that it's good to keep some things to ourselves. There's nothing that anyone can say that will make me change my mind about how I want to give birth or other decisions that DH and I are making, like using cloth diapers and breastfeeding. Our families have been supportive and are very happy for us, and I know they haven't said anything on purpose to upset us. They just have their opinons. My MIL had an emergency C-Section with DH since overnight he changed positions and couldn't be delivered vaginally. So she is very pro-medical intervention. I'm sure we'll figure out how to handle things as we go.
My mom doesn't get why I want a natural childbirth either, she had epidurals with both me and my brother. I can't wait to tell her we are thinking about doing it at home and will be using cloth diapers too :)
I think it's awesome you are going natural and wish you tons of luck (not that you need it since, you know, it's what your body was built to do!)
Congrats on the first appointment. Sorry people aren't being supportive. I am sure lots of people on the bee will be supportive for you if you need an ear . . . computer screen?
Anyway keep us updated! Congrats!
Your first appointment! So exciting. Gkad to hear all is well!
So far my mom is the only one besides us that knows and she supports our decision in breastfeeding, cloth diapering, and making our own baby food, but it will be interesting once we tell everyone else what they have to say.
I am nervous to tell our family and friends that I plan to quit my job and be a full time SAHM, cloth diaper, make baby food, etc....I hear ya girl :)
good luck and keep us posted!

So I had my first prenatal appointment this morning. I was scheduled to see a midwife, and if I don't have any complications, I can continue to see the midwives at the practice throughout my pregnancy. I was really bummed that she couldn't hear the heartbeat with the fetal doppler, but at just 10 weeks, she said it wasn't a big deal. They couldn't get me in for an ultrasound this morning, but I have one scheduled for Sept 10.
One interesting thing that I didn't expect was to have so many family members (my mom, MIL, g-ma) all thinking that me wanting a natural childbirth was crazy or unrealistic. I expected to have to work to get the medical professionals on board, but the midwife I met with today was extremely helpful and supportive.
