I am so irked right now so I’m coming to the bees!!! Grr!
I have been trying to book a hair & makeup company for our destination wedding and it has been nothing but one big headache. I’m going to omit names here because I’m sure all of these companies do great work, but this has just been my own little nightmare.
I emailed three companies that had great reviews: A, B, & C. A was my favorite, B was okay, and C was the cheapest but seemed like they did okay work.
Company A responded with a ton of paperwork but none of it had anything to do with what I asked for. I was kind of confused so I emailed back to ask about it. They also mixed up our date (2011, instead of 2012) so I had to correct that. They had the best contact, the best reviews, the best work, the highest price, but the MOST CONFUSING web site, paperwork, and emails. I could barely understand what I was paying for. I even got different prices between emails. I still was almost prepared to pay the hefty deposit and try to forget about the confusion until later, but I really want to have my vendors tell me what is included in writing before I pay.
Company B mixed up the date, sent a one-line response that “We are available. Pay your deposit online and my assistant can take care of you that day.” I corrected the date, but still…pay the deposit, assistant could take care of me. There was nothing particularly bad about this, but nothing very wow either. Price tag was a little steep too.
Company C was kind of a flakey person who seemed very nice but again, mixed up the date, getting a price was pulling teeth, and she promptly sent me to her web site just to pay the deposit. I asked if before I paid the deposit she had some type of receipt I would be sent that would outline what I had paid for–what was included, what time she would arrive, etc. In about 4 back and forth emails she never once told me when she would arrive and also said she didn’t use a contract. Um..what? Really? Is this really THAT common?
So I went back to Company A to try to work out the issues with their all over the place contract. I asked them to please take all the bridesmaids hair and makeup off the contract (since this is just for me), and to correct the date (it was still wrong), and to tell me what the final price was (since it was different than what I was quoted) including the deposit amount. To which they replied that Whoops!!! They were all booked up for my April 2012 wedding.
I don’t even know where to go. I don’t feel like an invoice that outlines what I’m paying for is unreasonable. I just want to know the date and time of their arrival, and for it to say that I paid a deposit and that I owe this amount for XX services. That’s it!!! And it’s like pulling teeth. I’m trying to plan a wedding from thousands of miles away, months in advance…I really can’t have a receipt?
Doing my hair and makeup myself isn’t really an option–I have a clotting disorder so when I fly, I get these horrible bruises (like little speckles). We are flying in early to give it time to heal up, but I still want to make sure that if there are any on my face or arms, that I have a pro who can just airbrush right over it. Also, I am completely inept at putting a curl into my own hair.
