Have you considered Sissi Chan? She did a great job on my hair and makeup during the trial, and I hired her for just hair for my wedding since I had a large wedding party and it would have taken too long for one person to do everyone's hair and makeup. I don't have my professional pictures back yet, but here is a link to the shots by the guests: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2028977&id=1094618484&l=6f5293b644
I've attached some additional pictures from the wedding and trials (the one where I'm wearing the blue dress you can see the makeup she did; the lipstick wore off because I had been eating, but it looked really pretty)
She's very nice and friendly and does great work!
unfortunately i think that's the going rate in ny. have you tried craigslist? there might be vendors on there that are not as well known for cheaper.
look on model mayhem for someone in the city with a good port, but want to weddings. You will most likely only pay $75 for a make-up kit fee plus tip and final pictures. Modelmayhem.com
Hi! Aww, sorry to hear you are sad!
I was just going through some makeup stress last week: (http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/help-hairmake-up-artists-in-nyc-with-experience-in-asian-faces). A lot of the makeup artists I've researched are around the price range you suggest. However, several that are quite popular on this site (Sachiko Yanase, Reiko Utsugi, Ai Sakai, Sissi Chan) are very reasonable - for ~$600, they could do hair AND makeup for you and two in your bridal party.
I was stressed because they were mostly booked up (fortunately for me, I was able to book Sissi!), but it might not hurt to shoot them an email.

Good luck!
@ professorbee Your makeup looks beautiful! I just booked Sissi Chan and I'm really excited!
@professorbee - thanks for the tip! I called Sissy, and she is, of course, booked
But I did wnt to mention to you that your makeup looks beautiful!!!!!!
And thanks to everyone else for the great info! I called Amy Park, and she's open! Yay!!!!!
hey there! im actually booked with Rieko Shiba in 2 weeks. She isnt well known yet but im sure she will be :) she doesnt charge as much as the famous 4 above but she does a pretty good job. Her email is rieko.shiba@gmail.com tell her LINH sent you :D
good luck
Do you have any friends that are particularly good at hair or make up? Bridesmaids? Perks on that is that you can do a bunch of trials til you get it right? I'm considering doing this, also. Good luck!

Hi ladies -
I'll admit it - I'm waiting until the last second to book hair and makeup for my wedding. I'm getting ready at the Roosevelt Hotel in NYC, and I was hoping to have someone(s) come to the room to make me look pretty!
SO why am I sad? I am now realizing JUST HOW MUCH it will cost to get this done. around $550 for hair and makeup (average price, based on looking at about 20 vendors), JUST FOR ME, not including trials! Is this normal?
I've gone on projectwedding and wedding wire, since I would like to get a hair/makeup person (or a hair person and a makeup person) who does fab work and has great reviews! But it seems like I'd really be paying through the nose for those 5 star ratings... there's GOT to be someone out there who is fabulous but still... economical!!!!!!!
Help help help!!!! Am I destined to spend $$$$$$$$ on this? Do I have a choice? DO you all have any suggestions??
THanks bees...
