I had my hair and makeup trial on two different days. Thoughts on each???
I am planning on asking her to do more uniform on the lip colour (I didn’t notice until after that the colour doesn’t seem to be consistent on my lips – but I am not sure if that is because of the lighting)
She is going to put more volume on the left hand side of the bun. What are your thoughts though?
I am not doing a veil at all …

Your hair looks beautiful!!! You’re right about the lip colour, it’s a little too sparkly/shimmery/glossy for my taste and it does make it look uneven/different colours. Definitely ask for something matte and use a clear lipgloss over top if you like that shine! Your lashes look great, I think if this is a professional makeup artist she could do better on the eyes if I’m being honest… it looked like just one shimmery champagne shade slapped on the lid. Even if you’re not used to a lot of makeup normally, a nice blend of at least a couple colours with something more significantly darker in the crease would be perfect! Sorry I can’t pull up and photo suggestions, I’m sure some other lovely bees with be able to 🙂

laceydoilies: I love it! However, I think she could have done more with your eyes – unless you’re trying to go minimal? I’m just thinking of photographs. I know I felt like Tammy Wynette after my trial in person, but had my mom snap a few pics and boy did it make a difference!
You have a very pretty, soft look to you already! I feel like the lipstick detracts from your natural beauty, ya know? Definitely something more natural, definitely a matte. Unless you really love it, then who am I to judge?!

I actually really like the eyes. I tend to think that a lot of wedding makeup is way overdone. I can agree with a brown shade in the crease, but otherwise, I like that you don’t have overdone eyes. You still have definition from the liner and mascara for your photos.
I don’t like the lipstick. I don’t like the purple color. It’s the focal point of your face, when your eyes should be what I see first. Personally, I would go with a natural pink.
The hair is nice, but if you’re not wearing a veil, then how about something with more uplift in the front?

kristen182: BurlapnLace: Yeah, I think I want a bit more of a pink or peachy colour for the lips. Maybe a little more for the eyes but I really wanted soft and romantic 🙂 She did ask me if I wanted matte or gloss and I did say gloss so I will ask for something less glossy, I think.
My makeup inspiration was:

laceydoilies: You look beautiful! I agree with you, that the lip gloss is a little funky. Something more natural like a more sheer nude/pink would be beautiful. I also think the back of your hair is super pretty and I love the headband, but I’m not a huge fan of the curly pieces in the front. It reads a little prom. You do look beautiful though, so please don’t take this the wrong way….just two small things I would maybe change if it were me.

jamb: Agree with the lip colour. I really liked it until I saw the photos – then it was just too much for me. I don’t do dramatic so wanted to stay away from the super strong eyes – but I love the lashes (which are mostly my own). Uplift, like more volume??? I asked my hair stylist and she said that she didn’t want the headpiece hidden (she had poofed it out a little bit before flattening it just a touch)
whitums: I just don’t like how my hair looks when it is all back and prefer something a little bit at the front. I think the lip colour is a pretty strong concensus lol. I am not offended, and you are definitely not being mean so don’t worry about it :).

whitums: Agreed. The hair looks “prom” to me as well. I think the curly tendrils in the front with a very tight updo in the back make it look that way. A looser updo would make it softer overall.
Love the eye makeup–very beautiful!

laceydoilies: Going against the grain, here, but I think the eye makeup is really pretty! I love the look of minimalist eye makeup with more dramatic lipstick, especially because your lips have such a nice shape to them. Perhaps you could try a brick red lipstick? I agree that matte would be better than gloss!

I like the eyes and the lips but I just don’t like them together. The inspiration picture is more peaches and cream and while the eyes are pretty they aren’t the same look as in the picture. It’s too brownish/bronzey. I don’t know if you have a Chanel counter in your area but I know a few seasons ago they did a collection very similar to that picture so I would recommend bringing in a picture and having them show you the types of colors they would use that way if you go back to your makeup artist you know what type of colors she should be using and veto ones that she pulls if you don’t think they’re similar enough.

Hi!
Agreeing with some of the previous comments — Such lovely eyes and lips you have … you could play up either, go with whatever pleases you most.

As a professional make-up artist, I have a couple of observations/suggestions:
1) Check your foundation color. Your skin on your neck and in the hair-only photo looks more fair and pink than the foundation on your face. Oftentimes the skin color on our faces aren’t perfectly matched to our necks & upper chest, but then the make-up artist needs to balance this out – bronzer is often a good fix. I think you would like the color (but perhaps not the amount of shine) of the lip color more (maybe slightly less bright) if your skin tone was accurately reflected by the foundation.
2) One of the challenges with the photo you chose as your inspiration is the tones of the model’s skin & hair are different than yours. With your dark locks you can pull off a stronger lip color than she’s wearing (and her pic is probably PhotoShopped as well).
Also her face shape is different than yours, and your headpiece is not as strong, so balancing the weight (visually) of lower style doesn’t work as well. To me this comes across most in your profile pic.
That said, when you feel beautiful, you look beautiful. So make sure what you choose pleases you!
Best wishes!

Also for wedding photography:
More cheek color than you think you need and more powder than you think you need. Shine on skin usually looks just oily in photos.
