I had a trial on Wednesday and it was crazy bad…
Appointment was for 3:30 for eyelashes, and then 4pm for hair and makeup. Whole thing was supposed to take an hour and a half. I suspectd it might run over a little, but I was there until after 7:30pm! And everything but the hair was horrible!
First when I got there the two salon gals were in the back working on other people. I waited at least 1/2 an hour past my appointment time to start. Apparently someone brought a friend and they “squeezed her in” which apparently meant giving her my appointment time.
The one gal started the eyelashes finally. These were individual false lashes, the brand that you can buy at Target. She put them on (took a lot longer than the 20-30 minutes she had said) and they looked HORRIBLE. I’ve worn false eyelashes before and I’ve seen people in false eyelashes (including this type) but mine looked nothing like anything I’d ever seen before. Eyelashes are supposed to follow the curve of your lash line. For mine, when my eyes were open, they looked kind of like a weird flattened “U” shape. They curved up and out at the ends and were flat in the middle. They also didn’t go even close to the width of my entire eye, they were just in the middle part, so there were huge gaps from each corner of the eye.
The gal told me that she was putting them on right, but I can’t believe it. I could see a much wider part of my eyelid below the lashes on the ends of the lashes, and could see no eyelid below the lashes in the middle section, making a U shape.
Then she said it looked that way because my eyes “weren’t curved.” Well, last I checked they do curve in a normal fashion. I eventually had to have her take them off because they were so ridiculous. I can’t believe they would have let me walk out in them!
Next came hair, which actually went OK and I was pretty happy with. Yay!
Then was supposed to be makeup, but the gal that was supposed to do it had another client come in and he wanted additional service from what he had scheduled, so I waited and waited and waited.
When she finally got around to me, the makeup experience and outcome was horrible. The eyeshadow was streaky and not blended at all – just full heavy color streaky across the whole upper eye with no blending, shading, etc.
The foundation was very flat and she didn’t do much to contour it other than a tiny bit of blush on the cheeks. I had told her at one point I wanted things darkened a little (mostly because my face looked so flat, I couldn’t see much of the eyebrows, and my lips were very nude looking) and she just kept darkening the eyes, not the eyebrows, not the cheeks, lips, etc. I couldn’t get her to focus on anything else but eyes, and it took forever. I finally got her to work on the eyebrows and she did two different colors on my eyebrows and kept going over and over which color was better even though I agreed with her right from the start. We spent like 20 minutes on one eyebrow discussion and I kept saying, “yes, lets go with that” and she kept going over why she liked that one but then not actually doing it for the other brow… At this point I just wanted her to finish because it was almost 7:30pm and I was exhausted. I left with two different colored eyebrows, flat face color, horrible streaky unblended eyeshadow, uneven eyeliner way too heavy on the bottom, lipstick that was too nude and mostly worn off, etc.
She had told met that the makeup would stay on for my whole wedding day, but I found that it streaked easily and the shadow and liner dropped powder all over my cheekbones before I even got home from the salon.
After I went home my fiance was like, “what happened to your face?”
My fiance says I should try again at a different place but I’m not feeling too inspired to do so. I’ll definitely try hair elsewhere (not going back there even though the hair was decent) but I feel traumatized on the makeup. I’ve never thought I was any great shakes as far as doing my own makeup, but compared to what I ended up with, I’m feeling more confident about DIY for wedding day, although I would love a professional look for photos!
Both yesterday and today I’ve put on false eyelashes just to prove to myself that my eyes are indeed normally curved and not bizarrely U-shaped!
