It can be but the right cut is sooooo key! I have naturally wavey ish hair and the BEST short haircut was a stacked bob, this way I could let it "air dry" and the stacked in the back would lift my crown, and it would still be sooo cute! i got it cut angled so the back was much higher (i would say by 4 or 5 inches) to the front - this way if i HATED it, it would grow out nicely without other layers i'd have to wait for to even out. :-( I had the option of also having it blown out which looked great too!
I never did hate it but after years of having shoulder length to short hair, I now have long hair and love it.
My sister got her hair cut short, she has fine hair... and had it layered. I thought it looked like Kate Gosselin. :-( but I didn't tell her.
asymmetrical bob is a good way to go.. like the pics you have shown. I have my hair cut like that & it is VERY easy to manage.
although im trying to let it grow out for the wedding!
that curly cut is SO CUTE
But....i have long curly/wavy hair and my hair loses its curl when it's that short. I chopped my hair into the most adorable pixie cut and it looked like a hot mess when it was curly. It needed to be styled daily. Now that my hair is longer, it curls right again. It's so fussy! If you do it, get some professional tips on styling it like that!
I have always (like, since I was a little girl) wished I had really really really tight ringlet curls so that I could crop it short and have a bushy curly crop. like, mini, white-girl afro. (can I say that? if that's not a polite thing to say I'm sorry!!! I hope it's okay ... um ... now I'm worried I'll offend someone, but I don't know how else to explain it. Please don't be offended!)
go short go short go short! You'll love it!
I like the assymetrical bob as well.. but I dont have a well defined jaw line and Ive always felt that would put to much emphasis on it.. maybe Im wrong? Ohhhh.. decisions, decisions!
Arancia - I don't have a defined jawline either but I corrected that by having the front about 3.5 to 4 inches longer at my chin so it was covered. It looked gorgeous, I had SO many compliments about it! I would SOO do it again but my boyfriend loves my long hair :-) I also had bangs but they were the rockabilly baby bangs.
Hmmm interesting... ok, Im going to start looking for images like that. Yeah, my hubby loves long hair, but curly hair is so difficult to manage long. I chopped my hair for locks of love once and I loved the look.. but I was a good 10+ lbs thinner at that time too!
Ummm I'm seriously thinking about going to get my chop on the Monday after the wedding. We're probably leaving Tuesday for the honeymoon. I miss my short hair!!!!
Bakerella- Im definitely interested in your opinion since you know what I look like!
Artichokesalad- can you easily put your hair back? I know a full ponytail would be difficult, but is a half-up look doable?
yep - as long as your hair dresser checks the length of the front he/she chops to confirm! I did a half up when I worked out, but generally I didn't need to because the length was perfect as is!
Arancia - We'll discuss when I see you ;) And on that note why is it snowing again?!
If you need a good hairstylist my guy is in Toronto and he is AMAZING. I don't know what you've found up here since you moved. I find short hair so much easier to take care of. Blowdrying takes about 30 seconds and flat ironing is pretty quick if it's needed. I don't get weird flippy parts, it just makes me happy to have something more low maintenance. Part of me just wants to chop now and get extensions in September, LOL!
V- my friend had extensions for her wedding and they looked great! Im going to check our your link. Im going to this one place now thats pretty nice.. but Im always up for suggestions!
Yuck! SNOW--- grrrr.
Definitely ask your stylist. It will totally depend on how it's cut, and your stylist will be able to tell you how high-maintenance a short cut will be with your hair type.
I have naturally wavy hair, and after the wedding, I chopped it all into a short bob (it used to be way past my shoulders). I LOVE it. It's honestly not that hard to maintain, but the ket is the cut my stylist gave me. She did the layers just right so that they worked natural with the wave in my hair.
I would bring in a bunch of pictures to your next appt and see what they have to say!
Short hair is awesome! I've gone short many times, and I'm excited to do it again after the wedding. I'm growing my hair out now so that I can hopefully donate it to Locks of Love.
Anyway, I've been through many short haircuts, some great, some terrible, and what I've found is that you really need to pay attention to how the cut frames your face. Based on the pictures your posted, that cut should be really easy to style, even if it is short in the back. Some soft pieces, like soft bangs and some tendrils around your temples, will keep it looking feminine no matter how short you go.
I made the mistake a few times of getting a short cut with no face-framing layers and I felt...well...bald. I couldn't create any softness around my face without my hair hanging in my eyes and looking messy, and if I brushed it out of my face, it looked harsh.
Just my two cents. Good luck!
This is what Im afraid of it looking like with a stacked cut- except I have bangs:
EJS- my hair was a "hot mess" when it was short too! I loved it... but my hubby hates short hair.. grrrr. Ive also been thinking about permanently straightening it. My SIL does and it looks awesome. Time consuming, but awesome.
I think if the back is cut a little longer it would still look cute - PLUS you can always blow dry it straight or brush it occassionally while it air drys, and then run some biosilk serum through it to separate the curls instead of poofy mess.
or probably more realistic would be to use a product (ask your stylist) that you leave-in so when your hair dries, your curls are separated. :-)
Is your hair curly wavy like that first pic you posted? Or is it like tight curls curly?
I think if it's curly wavy then go for it! Because that pic looks sexy to me!
Honestly, FI likes short hair on me. :) And I do too but I'm growing it out for the wedding. And will most likely chop it off after the wedding before HM. I hate having to blow dry my hair in the winter!
I do think with curly hair short it'll take work to make it look good. You won't be able to just naturally dry it, right?
Go for it! I have curly/wavy hair and I got it in my head a couple years ago to chop all of mine off. I went from butt-length to a shaggy pixie. I LOVED my short hair. It's all going again right after the wedding.
This is sort of what my haircut was:

I adore short curly hair. Just yesterday I saw a girl at the gym with short curly hair and it made me jealous mine is so stick straight.
Gerbera- my curls are loose.. its tighter than a wave, but not spiral curly. I think when its short its so easy to blow dry it, put a product in and let it work its magic.
Im so torn! Im looking at a pic of myself from the summer with longer hair and I love it.. but my face looks better with short hair- but my curls look better long. Does that sense?
zippylef- I love that pic! Thats how my hair used to be.. but I think you have to have a slender neck and collar bone region to pull it off. Id need to up the cardio for that look! haha.
Ok- here I go! I think Im going to keep it long with many layers. Once it grows an inch or two more, Im going to permanently straighten it. The hubby just doesnt want it short.
Maybe after our receptions he'll be more into the idea...
Short hair is sassy! I took the plunge & cut off 10 inches... and I look so much more friendly & approachable. I have an asymetrical bob & its the best haircut I've ever had. I get complimented on my cut every single day at work. Even my FI likes it more that long hair... I look more polished & my confidence is through the roof. So I guess it is sexy.
I think more women should take a chance & try out a shorter 'do! My hair is still at my shoulders so its not like super short... before my hair was past my boobs.

Hey bees! I have an appt to get my hair cut next week and I want to do something different. I have naturally curly hair, its ashy blonde with lots of highlights and lowlights. Currently its falling right below my shoulders with long layers- its feeling dry and damaged from growing it out- so Im thinking about chopping it. But is short hair sexy and flattering?
I like to wear my hair both straight and curly.. but when its curly it gets unmanageable so I put it in a clip/ponytail. So I was thinking a cut like the curly one below could be cute- and when its straight it may look like the second pic. (My hair is the color of the curly pic and I have the same shaped face.) What do you all think?
