I am in need of some expert hair advice! On the 10th of this month I got my hair dyed to cover the grays (that no one could see but me!) before my engagement pics. The colorist matched my hair with the swatch and assured me that I wouldn’t even be able to tell I had it colored….except for the absence of grays of course. The result was bright red hair (I have dark blonde hair naturally). She tried to fix this with a medium brown dye which resulted in an even worse orange color. I lived with this mess on my head for a week and then went to another salon where they applied double ash to the mess on my head. It covered the red but my hair is VERY dark now and some of the red is starting to peek through! The color is also starting to turn a brassy color. I went back to the salon yesterday and she applied shimmer lights which she said toned down the brassiness. I don’t really see any difference. I am in the sun a lot!! What is going to happen to my hair? Should I have it stripped and retoned or just wait it out? I still have really healthy hair and I don’t ever use heat (dryer or straightener) but I want it to stay healthy!!
I have already pushed back my engagement pics until mid to late July….but now I fear I am really going to have a mess by that time!!
Thanks for your help girls!!

I remember you posting about this a little while ago, I’m so sorry you weren’t able to get it fixed 🙁 If it makes you feel any better, I also always have a red tint to my hair ever since I dyed it. It doesn’t matter what color I use or how “ashy” it is, when I am in the sun it always has a hint of red to it. I’ve learned to just embrace it. 🙂
If you can deal with the hint of red, just leave it! You probably notice it a lot more than anyone else will. But, if it bothers you too much, I’m sure you could just get the color stripped and then stay away from hair dye for a while 🙂

Yes. I was so upset when I made the first post. Don’t get me wrong….this is much better than what it was. I have actually gotten a few compliments on this color, it is just such a drastic change. I am just so bummed out about the whole thing. I just feel so stupid for worrying about those few gray hairs….and completely destroying my hair color!! UGH–and eight months before my wedding!!
I think I am going to leave it. I just keep thinking someone will provide me with a “miracle” cure for the redness. Thanks for your help and support!!
Have you ever used the “shimmer lights” and what kind of luck did you have with it?

My friend had a problem kinda like this (the girl bloatched her hair and didn’t tell her… nice huh?)and she went to an Aveda Salon (they use all natural products) and they fixed her hot mess in a couple of hours… well at least made it look SOOO much better. It didn’t get back to her natural color for at least two more visits.
