I will have my hair like Carrie Underwood's for the reception. Even though it may be too hot, I don't care. It's the only time in my life that I'll be able to look this way.
@hhcheung2000 When is your wedding? Have you had a hair trial yet?
I forgot to mention - as far as accessories go, I have a flower (feather) fascinator and then earrings and a bracelet.
Yes. I had my hair trial last Sunday and I have one picture of how my hair will look for the ceremony (see wedding dress attachment) and reception hair (see red Chinese dress). I still need to find a clip for the reception hair and need to find one soon since my wedding is on July 26th!!!
Try clip on hair extensions. They really work. They helped to make my hair fuller and are definitely worth the investment!!! I got the human hair extensions at Sally's Beauty Supply for about $80.00. Ordinarily, my hair is the same length as yours and it's straight as well.
My vote is the Carrie Underwood side pony :) When you said "side pony" I was a little reluctant, but i think that would look really nice and it's just subtle enough to not make your photos look dated later on. I love it :)
@Miss Bravo - Yeah, the more I look at photos of this type of hairstyle, the more I like it. It kinda seems like the compromise between an updo and down or half-up/half-down.
My hair's decently long (the photo of me is from about 2 months ago) but it's fine, so I'm wondering if I could pull this off with just my hair or if I need to get some kind of clip in extensions or something?
I love the carrie underwood side ponytail... and its great cuz it wont be in your back.
I love half up dos... and think you should do with that..
Maybe assign a bridesmaid to cool you off once in a while with a damp cloth.. ;)
@flamingo hahahaha good suggestion about the bridesmaids..."Okay, COOLING TIME!" lol
Good point about the side pony-tail...typically when I start sweating it's my forehead, the back of my neck, and my back.
Do you have a stylist you can go to that specializes in bridal and extensions? I got lucky because I found a great person on a trip to LA. She's much better than any of the people who have ever done my hair in San Diego and she's cheaper! Honestly, I don't even recognize myself in my pics..haha.
Well, I've already got the hair person booked and there's only 1 week left until the wedding, so extensions are probably out of the question. The only thing I could do is check somewhere like Sally Beauty Supply or something for the clip in things.
My hair is pretty long on its own (that pic of me is from almost 3 months ago), about mid-back length I guess, it's just fine.
I personally love side ponys and I think you'd be much cooler in one and more comfortable. Don't do an updo you hate just to stay cool, though. Good luck!
I like both styles, but the side ponytail one will definitely be cooler, and will probably work better with your hair. =)
I took a TONNNNN of photos but here's just one...I tried out the carrie underwood side-pony here at home....thoughts?
I think you look lovely with the side pony tail. It flatters your face and looks natural.
Thanks girls! I'm really liking it as well I think! My FH came home and was like- "Wow, your hair looks really pretty!"...which for a guy to even notice is pretty awesome lol
I personally really like the first hair picture you posted, but the side pony looks nice too. If you're not comfortable with your hair in an updo (I'm not either) I definately wouldn't go that route. I think you should be ok since your pictures are first so your hair will still look good and fresh. If you're worried about what the heat might do to your hair would it be possible to keep the hairdresser around until the ceremony and she can give you a touch up before it begins? Also, maybe you can buy a few battery operated, hand held fans for your BM's or someone to carry around so that you can keep cool between photos.
@LeiAnn- good idea about the fans! I'll have to go to the store this week and see if I can find some
@MsHymanRoth Which photo are you talking about?
I think you should do with the side pony tail--its the best of both options. Its have the down look but will be a little cooler since it wont be on the back of your neck. Its very elegant.
I was married on a very hot day but kept my hair down. If yu don't like your hair up I vote - keep it down and feel good and look good. Maybe you can get creative and keep it down for the first half of the day and then put it up somehow if you get hot later in the day... after ceremony and pics.
@krgk84 - the sideswept pony looks amazing on you - it makes your beautiful eyes "pop" even more. You'd look stunning with that "do" on your wedding day.
A keeping-cool thought would be to see if you can have an ice-bucket with face towels in your venue's ladies room (opposite of the hot towels you get when flying) and have a BM grab one for you when you feel too warm for a cool-down moment.
Thanks everyone! :) I was just surprised I was able to get it to look halfway decent on my own..I am horrible with fixing my hair. lol
Any changes/improvements you'd make to what I did that I can tell the hairdresser?
I really love the side pony you did for yourself! You look so pretty! Maybe ask the hairstylist if she can maybe tease the ends of your hair before curling it just to amp up the volume? But it's really gorg just the way it is!
@star Thanks! Yeah I have really fine hair and didn't do any teasing myself...so that's def. something I'll prob have her do! :)
wow - looks like you and i have VERY similar hair! I too don't like my hair in an up-do at all and even though my MOH keeps telling me to put it up - I don't like the way my (round) face looks with my hair in an updo and prefer it down.
I'm doing a half-up do - pulling the top half back in order to have a place to put the combs for my veil & hair peice and the rest will be down and very curly (sorta like the second pic you have).
I would say - do the 1/2 up 1/2 down. :)

My wedding is in a week (July 18) and I am STILL undecided on my hair!
All my life I always envisioned a pretty half-up/half-down hairdo on my wedding day...like always.
BUT our wedding is in July...in Louisville, Kentucky. So basically, really freakin' hot.
The thing is- I HATE HATE HATE my hair in an updo. Always have. I just think it makes my face look really strange and I just hate it. I've had 2 hair trials, she tried 3 different styles in the front, and I've tried playing around with it on my own. I can't find one updo hairstyle (in the front) that I like.
My hair is very fine and silky, so it doesn't do the whole pretty textured look very well...I have a sort of round face shape, so the sleek styles just make me look very odd.
We're doing outside photos at about 3pm; the ceremony is then in a tented courtyard at 5pm, then reception immediately after, which is inside.
SO really we'll only be outside for about 1 1/2 hours, and at least 30 minutes of that (ceremony) will be in the shade of a tent.
Anyway, my dilemma is: Should I go with what I like (half-up/half-down) but run the risk of being hot, orrrrr should I go with an updo that I hate the look of so I can stay cool?
I'll attach a photo of me as well as photos of the half-up/half-down do I'm thinking of, anddd also I was thinking of the whole side-pony tail thing....thoughts?
