there is the cao institute which is paul mitchell partnered school in alhambra if that is not too far for you to go. it is the same price as paul mitchell for a phase II person. If you go let me know how it works out because i am looking for something cheap as well but my wedding is not until january. oh and for the too cute footwear place, make sure you check out the times they are open because it is in the afternoon. http://www.thecaoinstitute.com/cao/guestservices/index.cfm
Hi- this might be a bit late- but there are also 2 Vidal Sassoon training academies not too far from Westwood- one in on the Promenade in Santa Monica and the other is off Santa Monica Blvd in Beverly Hills. They are really reasonably priced, but I am unsure how long they would take to do a formal wedding hair. Usually getting a haircut there can take awhile if they are still under supervision. Good luck from your friendly cross-town rival!
Let me give my opinion, If you really want reasonable make one of your best friends learn to do it, then you can tie her to your leg and have her at your beck and call. Costa Mesa is not an option. There are HUNDREDS of places in LA, if you tell me exactly where your event is, I can be more helpful. For me, I wouldnt consider going to an academy, trust me Vidal Sassoon is hit or miss. Van Van Hair Salon does a lot of updoos for Japanese tea ceremony, sort of casual and perfect, they are pretty reasonable. If you want perfection, go to Yuki at Borelli Salon on Burton Way there is nothing he cant do, you wouldnt even need a practice, he's not cheap, he does all the stars albeit in their home, probably about $80.
The wedding is at UCLA. I have a hair and make-up preview on Monday with Y Beauty Studio. They run a little high for the bride, but only between $67 - $75 per service for my bridesmaids, and they will come to my location. I am hoping it goes well. Anyone here use them?
If you have a crisis, VAN VAN is pretty close to UCLA (just on sawtelle) but I'm sure you will be fine! Take a picture and stick to your guns!

Okay, so I haven't had much luck finding someone AFFORDABLE to do hair. I want a loose updo and I want my bridesmaids to get updo's. My mom gets her hair done at the Temecula Paul Mitchell school, (and I've had my hair done there as well) so I decided to look them up online to see if they have a location in LA -- they don't. However, they do have one in Costa Mesa. Here is their website: http://www.paulmitchelltheschool.com/pmts/guestservices/index.cfm
An updo is only $30.00!! But, alas, Costa Mesa is just too far away from LA.
So, now I am going to start aggressively researching hair places -- ones in LA (Westwood) that we can go to, and ones where they come to you -- and I REFUSE to pay $100 for someone to pin my hair up.
The wedding is on campus at UCLA and we have a room if someone comes to us, or if the salon is close to the campus, we can go there. Does anyone have recommendations or suggestions?
