Hi! I am back to find advice or recommendations from any brides in the Charleston, SC area…
I need help finding a recommended hair and makeup artist.
I also need to find a reasonably priced cake/cupcake for the wedding….
Seems to be very expensive going through a wedding cake company.
Thanks in advance!!!!

Have you checked out Wildflour pastry charleston for a cake, I have had friends recomend them and am thinking about using them for my wedding (I have not gotten to the cake yet). Also I had a friend get a great deal from Publix and they even delivered for free : ) the cake tasted great.
For make-up i LOVE Pamela Lesch but I know she is expensive (I am going to have to save to afford her but its so worth it to me!)

I’m using Wildflour as well. Reasonably priced and delicious.
For makeup I’m using Elina Mills: http://www.bellelina.com/ ….She gave me a discount because I have so many bridesmaids. I already had my trial and loved it!

I am going through Paper Dolls. In addition to the glowing reviews on weddingwire, I have seen a lot of “real weddings” on Charleston blogs where they were the makeup/hair artists and it was beautiful. The best part is they were wayyyy cheaper than almost all of the other quotes I got. Carrie is a sweetheart too and has been great and quick to respond via e-mail.
Cupcake (store name) has reasonable prices for cupcakes. We went in for a tasting and they were great.

I used Wildflour for my cake. FABULOUS! It was so cheap, I remember emailing back telling them I thought they made a mistake with the price because it was so cheap. I needed a cake for 125 people, it was three tiers of different flavors and I think it was practically nothing – a different vendor wanted 750 for the same thing, and on top of that the cake actually served WAY more because she thought it would be prettier if it was a little bigger.

I can second Carrie at PaperDolls! I lived in Charleston for three years and she was my hairstylist, super sweet girl and good at what she does. I have hired her for my wedding as well and her rates are affordable.
I am also looking for an inexpensive bakery, looking into Wildflour as the cakes I have seen from them are super gorg. Lauren has been good at getting back to me as well.
I am actually considering doing a smaller, two tiered cake and then a sheet cake that the kitchen can serve up when it’s time for cake…sheet cakes start at $2.50 per serving there, and regular cakes start at $4/per serving. Would be a super saving! I have also read about bakeries putting in a fake layer to make the cake look bigger, and then using the sheet cake to serve. Not sure if I will go that route but it’s an option. (Also not sure if Wildflour would do that.)

Oops also mean to comment that I have also gotten quotes from Publix. I have heard NOTHING but good things about cakes from Publix. The only thing is that they’re limited in flavors: vanilla, chocolate, marbled, half and half, and red velvet and carrot cake for an extra charge. I actually didn’t ask about fillings so not sure about that. I would definitely look into Publix cakes!

I just got married over the weekend.
P.I.E. Bake Shoppe did my cakes and they were amazing. My two tiered wedding cake was $3 a slice, which is really inexpensive. I did a two tiered cake for 60 people and then did five other cakes that fed 30 each. I did mini fruit tarts, whoopie pies and cream puffs. Everything was over the top delicious. Chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting, coconut cake, red velvet and cream cheese frosting!!! AMAZING. Not to mention, Paige, the owner is amazing and does not charge a delivery fee. I can send you pictures if you would like.
For hair, In Style Salon in West Ashley in the Total Wine parking lot. Came on-site (no fee). My hair was $65 and it was impeccable. Attendants hair ran anywhere from $35-$55. Efficient and creative. This was the only thing that ran smoothly for me the morning of my wedding. I think it was a tremendous value. I can send pictures if you would like!

@JenniferMm: Cupcake was awesome! We loved their tasting we had last month, just fabulous! We were about to put down the deposit and told them what flavors we wanted, the ones we tasted actually. We were told that they could not guarantee any flavors and were very sketchy on when they would be able to tell us what flavors they would have next May. Really!? I’m about to buy 13 dozen cupcakes and I can’t get the flavors I want!? What crappy business. We walked away. By far the best tasting we had of any of the cakes/cupcakes.

@tracyb3285: About In-Style, we are getting married downtown. Do you know if they will come downtown? Not exactly sure if we are staying in the district but more than likely, especially if we only stay one night.

@MrsBrown13: yes! They came downtown for me. We stayed at the Ansonborough Inn. They have huge rooms at a great value!

@tracyb3285: Really? Great! Thanks, I will check that as well. We definitely want to stay downtown after the wedding for our Minimoon! We are planning a delayed honeymoon at this time.

@MrsPinkPeony: Thanks for this review; I was considering taking an offer from a very talented neighbor but think I’ll contact WildFlour just to see what they can do, too!

@tracyb3285: Could you send me some pictures of the InStyle hair styles? I’m a little hesitant to book them because I couldn’t find any wedding reviews on them :/ but their prices sound so good!
