I went in for my hair and makeup trial today. I am okay with the hair (not in love, it’s so dull and frizzy, WTF?), but the makeup is not what I asked for. I am waffling between being pissed and telling myself the makeup can be fixed and that’s why I did a trial run.
I knew from the start I did not want the typical, understated, “I look like myself, but more” wedding makeup. I wanted something more dramatic and formal, but not over the top. Today, I took with me these two pictures, which I think are stunning. I could tell the makeup artist was a little hesitant, because she said it was more of an evening look, but frankly, I don’t give a sh*t. It’s gorgeous makeup and, more importantly, as the customer it’s what I wanted.
Kate Winslet’s eye makeup:
And Marion Cotillard’s blush and lipstick:
What I got were similar eyes, but peachy colored gloss and blush:
Speaking objectively, I know this makeup is not horrible and I am satisfied with the eyes. The rest of it, though, not so much. The blush and lip color need to be more raspberry and less mauve/peach. The lip stain dried out my lips, so instead of soft and supple, they look dry and cracked. When I’m not smiling, it looks like I’m pursing. The stain/gloss combination is also uncomfortable to wear. To top it off, the stain was not applied evenly:
The blush was originally going from my cheek bone almost all the way to my jawline, which blended my cheek bones into the rest of my face and made my face look fat.
The foundation leaves a little something to be desired, too. It does not even out my skin tone. My upper lip and chin are both red.
So, at least now I have a list of things to tell her not to do on the actual day, and I mentioned some things to her when were all finished and she was happy to fix them. But, jeez, it’s so frustrating to pay $120 (!!!) for the hair and makeup trial and come away from it thinking you look 10 years older, fat-faced, and like you have frizzy, dryed out hair! I got a haircut two days ago and walked out of the salon with the shiniest, bounciest curls – so I know my hair has the potential to look hot!
