I am curently lusting over these pretty little ladies. But I can not justify spending between $90- $165 on a flat iron. http://www.flatironexperts.com/Wet-to-Dry-Flat-Irons-s/129.htm
I really hope someone has a recommendation on a reasonably priced flat iron.
chi. get the one with the gold plates and red "velvet" outside paddles. best. favorite.
I have an Amika and I actually think its 100% better then a chi. And if you buy it from amika (not through another like online retailer) if anything ever happens to it, they'll replace it. They're amazing...
PS - I have the ceramic straightener, they also have tourmaline and titanium which I can't speak to the quality.
oh, and for what it's worth, i've had my chi for 7 years and it still works the same. been dropped on tile floor tons of times, for what it's worth.
@scissors: I love my chi. I heard there were some problems with the cords being cheap now that they are a bit more mass produced but I have had mine almost 2 years with no problems.
I have a Solia... it's kinda pricey but I use it allllll the time. I was using a cheap-o one and it was really messing up my hair. Personally, I think it's worth it to spend money on a hair straightener especially if you use it often.

@scissors: That's nuts! The reason I ended up with an Amika is because I had bought a Chi and it just stopped working about a year and a half later. I fought with the company and they basically said "too bad". I figured after spending well over $100 on a straightener the company would have done something since it just stopped working, and when they wouldn't I said I would never buy another Chi again.
EDIT: They said too bad because I had purcased mine through Target and didn't keep the receipt (but I had the box). If I had gotten it elsewhere it may have been a different story.
I'm addicted to hair straightening and I would reccomend the CHI 100%. They also provide a lifetime warranty on their products if you keep the box.
I've tried many brands and this one seems to be the best bang for your buck. If you don't like the CHI line then I would also suggest trying the tourmaline line T3 (through Sephora).
Edit: My CHI is the only one that has lasted the test of time. Going on 4 years now. All the others crapped out after 6-9 months :(
I have a tourmaline ceramic flat iron from Solia (bought it off folica.com) that I've had for 7 years, and it's still great. My best friend bought the same one and has had it almost as long and her's is awesome too. It makes your hair shiny and smooth. And you get a felt heatproof case when you buy it, which I use to keep it in and sit it on when I'm using it. The only thing I would say is a negative is the outside gets kinda hot if you are using it for a really long time.
I know it has been said already but I absolutely love my Chi. It not only has kept my heair looking healthy, it also adds sheen. Would never go back to what i was using before (the cheapo kind...). They are pretty expensive (around $100) but last forever. Good luck!
I love my Chi – had it for years (hmmm, maybe 2-3, or 4? Not sure, but a long time!) and use it every.single.day. and my hair dresser says my hair is extremely healthy.
I know its hard sometimes to justify the expense, but if you buy 2 cheaper ones in the same time period, then it’s cheaper (I mean: worth it) in the run long :)
wow! thank you! I am going to look into the options suggested (sounds like the chi is a favorite)! I'd obviously love to hear more opinions if other people have them, too!
now off to amazon...
@scissors: this one, right? http://www.folica.com/tools/flat-irons/chi-ceramic-flat-iron-turbo-one-inch-digital
I have this ceramic Hai and I LOVE it!!! It's super fast and makes my hair shinny and smooth

@cheeseburger: i think that's the new school version of mine. i'd say get one with larger paddles, unless you need bang action. (i actually have a tiny cheapo for when i have bangs) mine has 2" paddles. can't tell if they still carry that size! bah!
@scissors: thanks! looks like up to 1.5"
so many good recs! thank you guys! my hair also thanks you :)
@mrs.peters.to.be: hey! I can only find one year warranties on Chis :( do you think this is something that changed?
I love my Sedu straightener. I've had it for a looong time (like six or seven years) and it still works perfectly! (and I don't want to go against the grain, but I like it better than the Chi)
If you keep the box and the straightener breaks for any reason, you can send it back!
LOVE IT!
I've had the sedu for about 6 months. I know I did a lot of research when I bought it, but I can't remember why I picked this one over the other ones. But so far so good.
@cheeseburger - the Chi only has a 1 year warrenty and thats only if you buy it from like a salon and not online. I have broken 2 chis in the probably 6 years I have been using them. I think its time for me to move on to something new soon. I would say if your worried about the warrenty - def dont go with the chi. Its not even that they necessarily break but they become much less powerful/take longer to do your hair. In other news I just go the brazilian blowout which was amazing so I dont even need an iron at the moment (but thats way expensive so may not be an option for you).
Chiming in here with my love for the Chi. I've had mine for four years now and it's still going strong. Plus, it's pink!
I know this is an old thread, but it has great advice in it, thus the reason I'm coming to ask for more! Has anyone used any of the above as a curling iron also? I love the shape of the curls from the straightener that's used at my salon, but (clearly) can't accomplish it at home using my cheap straightener.
Let me know how it works, or if they even can produce curl at all! Thanks!

Hola ladies!
I currently have a cheapo hair straightener that I use daily, and it's seriously destroying my hair.
I want to upgrade (without spending tooooo much money) - anyone have any that they prefer? Especially for daily use?
Thank you so much in advance!! :)
