did you want the criss cross flowers or were you going for more of the exact of the inspiration? It looks nice but I agree, a little '95-ish.
@catrina13: I wanted the waterfall braid/twist. I am fairly certain that the lady didn't know how to do it, but she never really admitted it.
I guess it doesn't matter to much if I don't have the waterfall braid. Because I have the wreath it will mostly cover it anyways. (i need to take some flowers off of the front, but besides that it is what I'm planning on wearing on my wedding day).
try larger curls so that there arent so many. i cant tell if theres a waterfall braid in your hair or not... are you wearing the flowers on your day?! i think thats hiding the waterfall braid. but even so. you can change your curls up some :) a little bigger and a little looser should get you closer to what you want!
I agree..I think the curls are too skinny..which is what is making it "1995". A wider barrel curling iron w ill get you more of a clean wavey look.
Good Luck!
@wifegoodman: yep, wearing the flowers. The twist she did was very tight. and she sort of added the loose hairs after the fact, and not while doing the twist.
Part of my is worried that this is the start of my small town wedding woes.
I happen to be a hairstylist so if you had shown me your inspiration pic, i would not have given you what your stylist gave you. In my honest oinion, the style she gave you is pretty but is not giving you the same feel as your inspiration pic. Not sure how she came up with that based on your inspiration pic. I would try another stylist or honestly explain to her that she didn't quite get it right. As a stylist, I would want to get as close to what you wanted as I could.
I suggest lots and lots of hairspray for more volume and so the style will stay tigher like in your inspiration picture. I have very very straight hair, and if I want my hair to play nice I have to use mega doses of hairspray.
You're so pretty and have so much hair to work with.
But, this would be a do over for me.
Thanks!
I think I will ask the hair stylist on my wedding day to please tone down the curls. They are pretty, but I really don't want to look back on my wedding pics and feel like I am stuck in the 90's. I really like the waterfall braid, but I am comming the realization that if its getting covered up anyways I can do without and just take what she gives me.
Hairstylist as well here.... Definitely not close to the picture. I would reccommend you going back and getting her to do that waterfall braid - it's really not that hard once they figure it out. Also another opinion about your curls.... if you have fine hair (nevermind if you have a lot of it), that may of been why they curled it more tightly as it would fall out slowly and by the end of your ceremony it's be looking more wave-y. If you do have fine hair and they do the waves you want, it'd most likely be straight after your ceremony. If you don't have fine hair, then get them to do waves. On the opposite end, if you have thick hair, get them to do pin curl waves - they hold in for a LONNGG time!
@TattooedChick23: Thanks for the suggestions. The curls stayed in pretty well the whole day (despite my fine hair). They relaxed a little but throughout the day, but still was more curly than I wanted (I went kayaking for an hour also!). Is there something I can tell her or suggest to get a more relaxed curl? If the curls stayed in pretty well during the day do you think it is safe for me to tell her to loosen up on the curls a bit? I really care less if my hair falls out after the dancing starts, but I would like it to not be as curly as hell during the pictures!
Yeah, I agree with the poll and PP. It does not match your inspiration and does look a bit dated. I would try for another stylist.
OK, it's pretty on its own, but your hairdresser probably saw your pics and knew not how to do it, but figured what you got was pretty close. What you got was pretty, but no, it does not match your inspiration. I would try another stylist. It's your day. Get your way!
Ask the stylist to use a large barreled curling iron (and or giant rollers if she styles it that way) and to finish the curls with a bigger barrel curling iron to define a few.
If you really like the waterfall style braid (which would be awesome in your hair), I would do a quick google search for a tutorial on how to do it. I think the stylist probably didn't quite know how to recreate it, or she just went off on her own idea. I would ask for another trial before the actual wedding day if possible, just to see if it can be done.
Well I guess I'm kind of glad I'm not the only one who showed that picture to a stylist and got a totally different look, lol. But I agree it doesn't look like the picture. I'm honestly debating just letting my stylist do whatever kind of braid/twist she's comfortable doing and can get to stay really well, because mine was so sloppily done (pretty sure she didn't know how) and fell out really fast. :/
Thanks everyone. My family says it looks nice, pretty. So it was a bit hard to argue with them. But I really, really don't want to look back and wish I would have gone with my guns on this one. I think I might try to recreate the hairstyle on my own and take a pic. I'm not so great with curls, but I'm pretty good with a braid. Then I might bring a tutorial for the braid in for her? Would any hairstylist be offended at this? I tryed to show her when I was sitting in the chair, but she insisted she could do it and was wondering if she should do the curls before the 'twist' as she called it of after. If I had an unlimited budget i would hire a hairstylist to come up and do my hair and not have to realy on what is available in my town.
looks like the hair dresser didnt really put any effort into it.
For the picture you have as inspiration, you're looking at getting it done by a 1.5" barrel curling iron. Have your stylist curl your entire head first. Then pick up a piece by the forehead pull back, pick a piece about 2" from there underneath the original strand, and pull it over the original and twist. Just keep going like that from each side.
I have a pretty similar inspiration picture to you and am going to post my outcome from my trial because it might be helpful- after a lot of tweaking with my hair dresser, she decided on the day of she'll do the twists and the braids first, then set the curls after that because when she was braiding it was messing with the big curls that I liked and making them frizzy... I wanted my braid a little bit more defined, which she said she'll do on the day of. anyway, here's the back and side of mine from the trial

@anchors_away: Thanks! I'll let my stylist know this for my wedding day! Yours looks great!
There is also lots of videos you could show your hair stylist on youtube about how to do awesome waterfall braids. Just a thought, it may help for her to see it done step by step.
My concern with it, is that from the front the placement of the flowers looks like you have pony tails. I think they need to be placed further to the back or side so that they don't peek up like you are wearing a scrunchie.
@anchors_away: This is BEAUTIFUL! I LOVE waterfall braids, but I have never seen how the braid "ends." Are the twists on the side masking the end of the braid? Or how does the braid end?
I saved your pics (I hope you don't mind!) to give to my hairdresser for inspiration. :)

I'm a little torn on my hair trail. It looks nice, but isn't really what I showed the hair dresser as my inspiration picture. Also I'm worried that it looks too '95. I'm torn because everyone says it looks nice, but I feel that if you show the hair dresser a picture of what you want she should give you what you want, and not something close (but not really). I am having my wedding the smallish rural town I grew up in and don't really have my picks for hair dressers. The salon I am going to is probably the most popular in town. Also I hate being the snobby city girl (well, most of the time).
Also- normally my hair is very flat.

My trail. Sorry about the large, sideways pics.
