@bluemeaway: How many trials do you plan to do? Keep in mind you usually have to pay for a trial, and usually it’s the same amount as the final product (so a stylist who charges $85 for bridal hair will probably also charge $85 for a trial). Some stylists knock $10-$20 off the trial, but still, it adds up. As such most people just find a stylist they like and do one trial. If they don’t like the style, maybe then they’ll seek out a new stylist and do another trial. But it’s not really something you line up a dozen different appointments for (unless you have an extra $800 lying around).

Personally, I am getting married in November and I booked my stylist already. She has an extensive bridal portfolio and works with local magazines and celebrities, so I’m confident in her abilities. I’ll probably wait until September-ish to do my trial.

@bluemeaway: Go online and read reviews…look for a stylist with lots of pictures of his/her formal work.

You can even go to the hair/makeup section of theknot.com…the stylists listed there are people who specialize in bridal hair. You’ll also be able to view some samples of their work. Choose a stylist who has photos in his/her portfolio that make you say, “I want my hair like that!” Don’t go in blind.

At a lot of places if you gaurantee them that you will be coming back for the final product (i.e paying for it when you go for your trial on top of you trial price and get a special card or voucher etc in return) a lot of places will do the trial for a lot less. I’ve heard of places doing the trial for half the price of the final product….. but like I said you’d have to pay ahead of time for the final product to gaurantee that you will be coming back so you’d better be sure that you like that place. Just ask around and see if you can find a place willing to do this 🙂
