I always thought I wanted to wear my hair in a low bun for the wedding but I had my hair trial and absolutely hate it and don’t know what to do. The guy I went to was recommended to me, but what he did was really dated so I’d have to find someone new to do a trial with if I wear it up (and cough up another $180…crazy LA prices). But, the trial also made me realize that I might just feel uncomfortable with my hair up even if it looks great (I basically never wear my hair up except at the gym). And I had my first dress fitting that day and I felt really bare wearing a strapless sweetheart neckline dress with my hair up.
I’m thinking I might feel more comfortable just having my regular hairdresser blow out my hair, maybe with some curls/waves. I know it would look good (she’s been my hairdresser since I was 12 and is a guest at the wedding) and I would feel comfortable/sexy. But I’m not sure:
1) how to attach a cathedral length veil. A lot of pictures I’ve been online of hair down with a veil the veil looks like it’s just randomly coming out of the back of the brides head
2) if it’s formal enough. We are having a black tie, evening wedding with the ceremony in a gothic style, Episcopal church.

@blg529: Your poll gave me the answer. You should wear it down you’ll feel more comfortable.

I’m not sure why hair down is considered informal. I think it can be incredibly elegant and sophisticated. I think you would use pins to hold the veil in. A hairdresser would probably know.

I think you should wear it down, A hairdresser will know how to keep the veil in. Having said that, I had a Cathedral length veil with a low up do, my hairdresser of 10 years, who never does weddings did mine and it was classic and didn’t have that dated up do look, maybe ask your hairdresser to try that on you next time you get a haircut, (that’s what mine did). Here’s a pic so you can see.

I always liked the way that Khloe Kardashian had her veil with her hair down- i think you should go with whats comfortable for you! It will look great!

@misschickpea: That Khloe Kardasian pic is perfect! Thank you!

I think you should do exactly what makes you feel comfortable and confident and beautiful. If that’s hair down… go for it! It will still look gorgeous with your veil.
And as for being formal enough? The future Queen of England was recently married in probably the most formal venue on earth… and she wore her hair down (mostly) 😀
I doubt anyone could argue on the formality of long, cascading hair down for a bride after that!

If you’ll be more comfortable with your hair done – go ahead! If you feel comfortable you’ll look better. Uncomfortable-ness comes across in pictures.

Omg I LOVE the side view of your hair! I have been looking for this style for months and have never found the perfect picture – until now! You look gorgeous and I really hope my hairdresser can recreate this style for me in a few months time.
