There are several styles out there that begin in a formal updo that is "loose" and the removal of a clip or two takes it down for the reception. Show your stylist the photos you have and then explain that you want it up for the ceremony but down for the reception --this is important because if you don't explain that then they will put a gallon of hairspray on the updo and it won't come down. It also changes how it is pinned up -- using fewer "pins" so that you can take it down easily.
I think I've seen several styles that start with a half updo then the bottom section just gets folded into the mix to make it a full updo. I've been getting frustrated with hair pictures because they all seem to come out of 1993, but I'm sure your stylist can come up with a modern way to bring it all toghether. Show her your half updo styles and ask for recommendations, just make sure you have a trial run.
Thanks ladies had a trial run for updo and it was great. Now my honey wants my hair down. Back to square one.

Okay I have two dresses. One for the pictures (before ceremony) and ceremony the other for the reception.
I have long hair. I had thought I would do a half-up do. But now dress number one is in and I really do need a formal updo style.
The problem I have saved half up do photos for over a year - have so many but I have my trial hair next week need pictures of fomal updo. HELP please can you send or post pictures?
