I have thin, dark brown, shoulder length straight hair. I have a friend who is a trainee hairdresser and needs to do foils for training – up to 10 of them – will probably go caramel colour. I want something which will define the styles I like to wear usually a french braid/twist at the front where my fringe would sit- pic below. Where would you place them in?

i would have her do peekaboo style foils. these foils are not placed near the outter hair line. have her part your hair like you normally would. then go about a half inch or more under your part and start putting foils randomly. i love this look because you dont have to keep up with it. when it grows out a little you wont notice the roots.
this is how my hair usually looks. i do my own hair, i worked as a hair dresser for about 5 years then had a kid so now im just a stay at home mom. i have about 8 or so foiled peekaboos in my hair.

Start just back from the hairline in a herringbone pattern running parallel to your hairline on the sides near your temples, and across the part (NOT on either side of the part or it will look very streaky.) Fine weave with two foil part widths in between each color foil. If your hair has never been colored she can use a level 9 or 10 violet or neutral base with 30-40 vol depending on your natural level. If you already have color shell have to bleach and then tone to get it o a neutral or slightly golden 7-8 level.

Sweet. I like the peek-a-boo highlights. I like that they dont seem to need so much upkeep too 🙂
