I'm going to ask the obvious question of...have you tried Sachiko Yanese? She'll definitely charge you a traveling fee since she works out of her home in Astoria Queens, but I would highly recommend her. If you haven't already, you can try emailing her at sachikoyanese@earthlink.net She's very responsive to emails. Good luck!
You can try Stacy Pitt. Her website is www.stylesonb.com. I'm Asian and she's doing my wedding hair. We did a quick run-through after my cut yesterday and what she did in like 8 minutes already looked awesome! She books up fast though so I would contact her ASAP.
I hired Reiko Utsugi to travel 2.5 hours to my wedding. She drives and will charge a travel fee but not much. She does hair and make up, and if needed, will bring an assistant. She usually works with the other well known Asian makeup artists around NY like Ai Sakai. Here's her info: reiko.makeover@rcn.com. Good luck.
I emailed Stacey Pitt and she was already booked but also wasn't able to travel anyways ![]()
I sent an email to both Sachiko and Reiko and keeping my fingers crossed!!
Thank you!
What about Once Upon a Bride? I went through a really tough time trying to find someone on LI that wouldn't do super teased out super hairsprayed prom hair and eventually decided it would be easier on me to hire someone in NYC who would be willing to travel (I live in the city but am getting married on Long Island) - their website is www.ouab.com and they have really pretty, really tasteful hairstyles in the pics on the website.
Does anyone have any ideas about the Once Upon a Bride prices for hair services for brides and wedding parties? I think I need someone to come to my hotel in Midtown Manhattan for me, seven bridesmaids and my mom.
Right now, the plan is to go down to my normal salon in Soho in shifts to get our hair done, but I'm starting to get hives worrying about the logistics of the girls getting around the city and getting everything done on time.
I've checked out the vendors in the New York Magazine, and someone was quoted at being "reasonable" for "$350 to $1,000 for the bride and from $75 to $150 (for a blow-dry) and $150 to $200 (for an updo) for each member of the bridal party." Seriously?!
Sandy105, try Sissi Chan. She's charging me $50 for my BM's hair and her portfolio of styles is amazing. One thing though, she only works with long hair. You can email her at sissichan@gmail.com
Good Luck!
I got a price quote from Once Upon A Bride. If you want me to forward it to you, please email me (jtmoney091208@gmail.com) and I can send it your way.
Hi, it's me again! Does anyone have any photos of Reiko or Sachiko's work? Can you please give me any info on what you thought or what styles they are good with and no-so-good with?
Thanks ladies!
Email me at tyeung612@yahoo.com and I will gladly send you pics from my trial with Sachiko back in September.
HI! I had the same problem finding someone to travel- I am getting married in Garrison NY. I tried Stacey Pitt, Sissi Chan and Sachiko - all booked. I ended up finding Zena Dixon of Red Carpet Bridal Beauty. She came to my apartment to do a trial and she is really commited to getting your hair the way you want it. Happy to send pics if you like. She is also really easy going and will be fun to have around as we are getting ready! A bit on the expensive side, but not outrageous.

Hi,
I am getting married in October in the Hudson Valley area (an hour and a half from the city). I have been searching desperately for a hairstylist in NYC who is willing to travel to our location for the wedding for 7 bridesmaids and myself (I will pay travel fees). I haven't had any luck so far.
The reason I want someone from NYC is because they have more experience with Asian hair and deal with more classic styles. Most of the hairstylists I find up near our location all show me pictures of 80s curly hair, HS prom hair, or what you would imagine "jersey-girl" style hair would be.
Please help me with any suggestions!!
