half eternity ring profile is REALLY high….

@weird_bunny:  I know exactly what you mean. I actually ended up buying two different wedding bands because of this. The first was high (not super high, but definitely higher on the side with diamonds compared to the other side). The second one was level all the way around, and the diamonds actually were brighter and more clear. It may have to do with the size of the diamonds and how high their profiles are. From the top, both of my half eternities look like they have the same size diamonds, though.

@weird_bunny:  Yes, mine is almost domed if that makes sense — it’s a half eternity and I assume it needs to be that way to accomodate the stones. It doesn’t bother me though because my e-ring profile is high, too. You can sort of see it here:

@weird_bunny:  my issue is that it doesnt sit flush with my ER

Sounds like you maybe got the wrong w-band?  Without seeing a picture, I’m not really sure what you’re talking about.

Hehe, that part of the diamond is called the culet, not the cuticle. Smaller diamonds won’t need such a high ring.

@weird_bunny:  Can I see your rings? You have a cathedral set e-ring? That’s my favorite (and what mine is). I thought the wedding band was strange when I first saw it as well but like I said, it’s ok bc my other ring is high. If you dont like yours, I do not think they are all like that so you can keep looking! Also, I was like, um all this metal is what drove the price up, haha! Oh well!

Too bad your wedding band does not sit flush with your e-ring, as you wanted. Hopefully your jeweler can modify it!

I had my wedding band custom-made as well. I had to fight a little to make sure it was low profile on the sides, so it would be comfortable for my fingers. I wanted a gallery setting, that rised with the profile of my e-ring. I wanted a gap, and a contour. Here is the final product and the design photos:

@weird_bunny:  Do you know how many mm the height and width of your e-ring and wedding band are? It should be comparable if they are to look like a set.

I haven’t bought my w-ring yet, but it has vvs-vs F-G diamonds that are super sparkly because of quality, and the dimensions of the setting are 1.3 mm height by 1.3 mm width. It’s a full eternity band, and not at all bulky. Perhaps it’s the setting type that you picked? A gallery setting will have a higher profile than a shared prong or pave.

@letigre:  Do you know the tcw of your band? I have a 1.3 mm eternity on order as well (for stacking) and I am worried it will just be TOO small, you know?  Wee tiny diamonds. Let’s hope not!!! 🙂

@wrkbrk:  I don’t know the TCW because I don’t really care about it — it’s the Tiffany Metro so it should be easy enough to find. I contacted several high end custom jewellers and all told me to just buy the Tiffany. The workmanship, quality of melee diamonds, and most importantly, the warranty makes it a good buy.

Picture is of the rose gold and white gold. Excuse my e-ring diamond, they cleaned it for me after I took this photo since it had smudged sunscreen all over it, lol.

@weird_bunny:  oh man, I hate that. when I was shopping for my wedding band, it drove me crazy because literally ALL of the settings were taller than the band on my e-ring (even ones with really tiny diamonds).  even worse, I happened to notice that a lot of vintage bands with diamonds have really nice, low profiles. so this taller band thing is a more recent trend. I hate it when the height of a band is more than 2x the width, I think it looks weird.

I did two things:

1: I opted for the “very low profile” eternity ring from moissaniteco.com (I was more into the design of the ring than the actual stone, so I was totally happy with moissy).  it’s 2mm wide and just under 3mm high.

2. then I had a jeweler customize my e-ring to give it a taller band. they added a 1mm sleeve to the inside of the band and then sized it up. now both rings match up perfectly!

@letigre:  Ah ha! Those are .19 tcw. Thanks for sharing. They look great!

ETA: Hmm, I looked at those too and specfically asked about a warranty and they said they are NOT covered and also that they were not “everyday” bands. Since I wanted an everyday wedding band, I passed. I wonder if I just got wrong information! I was too worried about a little stone falling out.

@wrkbrk:  very odd that they would tell you that. I was told they were covered for everything except for loss, and the salesperson seemed almost apologetic about that until I assured him I’d be adding it to our insurance policy, LOL.

They will be repaired if a stone falls out or they warp or anything else. My ring has a pave basket that will rub against it (diamond on diamond/18k gold) and they said that any wear and tear due to that would be covered as well.

It’s a Celeberation ring, and those are for daily wear/stacking. I went to Birks directly after, and also spoke with two custom jewellers, and all three told me to purchase the Tiffany. For $2100, the warranty on such a delicate ring will be worth it.

Unfortunately, repairs will be sent to NYC, and will take a few weeks each time. That’s a bummer, but I have other Tiffany fine jewellery that has been sent for repairs. No biggie.

@letigre:  WEIRD. I probably would have gotten it if they could have assured me they would replace any stones that got lost, which I directly asked. 🙁
