I’m sure other Bees out there share the same year-long, unhealthy fascination with Halloween that I have.
Quick test: if you fall into a several-month depression November 1st, you might be an addict.
Stores are finally starting to stock costumes and decorations again, which means our time of year is close!
With that in mind, I thought I’d make a thread where Halloween Addicts like myself could come and share what they love about the season, memories and ideas for DIY/costumes/etc. Tell us about your favorite halloween/horror movies, and themed treat ideas are great too. Special points for ghost stories!
Cute or scary, gory or tame: all are welcome here 🙂
Please share your Halloween love!

@badabing88: I love you now. <3 More than before. Halloween is my FAVORITE! O_O!!! I love the smells of autumn, the crunch of leaves beneath your feet, the mystery behind the night, the excitement of dressing up and being someone else for a night (even if that’s not really what the pagans had in mind), the symbolism of the changing harvest and death/rebirth cycle of the earth and nature, pumpkin ANYTHING, candy corn is my weakness (and it’s the only time of year I let myself eat so much I get sick), the fun of carving your own pumpkin, the mystery of the paranormal, the intrigue of the “other side” and all of that. Just…everything. I love Halloween. Love love love!

@badabing88 yeah other Halloween lovers out there! It’s my favorite holiday!
I can’t wait until October 1st when I get out my decorations. SO & I have a raging party every year and it’s always a good time! I have gone ‘scary’ with homemade costumes in the past few years but this year I’m going with funny. I started thinking about my costume in July…I’m a freak about it and I keep it secret until the day of the party!
I love all things Halloween…except I get a bit freaked about scary movies! I do like the original Halloween movie, The Exorcist and a few more.
ETA: I also love lots of food for the party…here are a few I’ve made and they have been a hit!

@badabing88: Obviously, I already love this thread.
I love everything about fall and Halloween. If it comes in pumpkin flavor or scent, I will eat it or own it. I will hoard it to last me all year. I could go to the Halloween store every day and spend hours perusing costumes and looking at decorations. I’m never satisfied just getting one costume.
I love Halloween so much that I decided that costumes are required for my bachelorette party. We’re going to a club that’s having their Halloween party that night so obviously that decision was easy!
We have special lights we out up to decorate (they’re pink and purple!) and picking out pumpkins is one of my favorite things ever. This year, I think I’m going to try my hand at chicken wire-cheesecloth ghosts for the front yard!

@Bazinga: Lol, I can’t watch scary movies. I am such a wuss!
I tried to edit my post above but it kept deleting the text when I did. I’d say my favorite Halloween memories are from when I was a kid and it would actually be cold and all the leaves would be on the ground by the night. And I always got to carve a pumpkin 😀 Our parents always took us to a pumpkin patch and we spent the evening after dinner carving them up and getting the “guts” all over each other, lol.
FI and I went as nuns last year, only we wrote E=MC2 on the crosses and took Carl Sagan books to preach the word of science. xD It was a big hit. I also met FI at a mutual friends Halloween party. I was a salsa dancer. Guess I looked pretty hot, he hung around. 😀

@s2bmrscook: That all sounds so cool! :D!! Post pics of your ghosties, I have seen them on Pinterest and was curious if they’d work the way the pics show them!

@badabing88: I’ve worked costume stores the past 3 Halloweens. I love it SO much! FI and I are planning on a Halloween wedding.

@s2bmrscook: Best bachelorette theme….ever.
@Bazinga: We are going scary this year too, but it’s still top secret 😉
@icanhearyousmile: yay!! I’m glad this resonated with other people too 🙂

I love Halloween. I grew up in NY and I miss the season so much…
One sad Halloween story: When I was ~7 years old, my dad had to go away on a business trip the day before Halloween, and I was too sad to go trick-or-treating (but my mom encouraged me to go anyway).. AND I had a dentist appt the next day! Two major bummers for a kid.
One awesome Halloween story: My FI and I discovered “Haunted Play: Delusion,” here in Los Angeles. It’s an interactive, haunted house. So you walk through a haunted house with a group, and a “host” leads you through the rooms, and you watch the actors act out scenes (like a horror play,) and sometimes people from the group get taken away by the ghosts/monsters. It is EPIC!!
I always have a problem picking out costumes though, because I wear glasses (I made a thread about this a couple of weeks ago). I can’t wear contacts, and I feel like an idiot when I dress up as an awesome character… and wear my glasses.

@icanhearyousmile: I’m curious to see if it works the way I want it to work. I hope it does!

Love Halloween! Carving pumpkins is my favourite, I am the crazy person going through all the pumpkins at the grocery store picking out the perfect ones to carve!
Here are the ones I did with FI and his family two years ago, the far left and right on the bottom row are mine as well as the whole top row except the far right one. The middle one unfortunately isn’t lit up enough, but it has three different patterns form Corpse Bride on it. So I essentially carved 8 different pumpkins that year:
I can’t wait to have a house one day and be able to go full out decorating the yard. Sheldon thinks Halloween is pretty tasty too:

@HonoraryNerd: Get out. I’d give my right arm for a Halloween themed wedding. I actually started getting emails from the Spriit stores, and one said they are hiring. I’m giving serious thought to picking up some hours if my work will allow it!!

@pixiecat: So much win. I’m with you, I can’t WAIT to have a house so we can (meaning I can) go all out with decorations!!!
