I was going to go as the Pope, mostly because I really wanted a cool hat and a sceptre. But then we were watching Boardwalk Empire and my fiance commented about how cute he thinks the flapper girls are, so I may go as that.
Plus, we're going to a costumed ultimate frisbee game, and it's probably easier to play in a dress than mitre and sceptre. (then there's the whole benefit of not seriously offending anyone...)
I got bridal Minnie Mouse ears when I was in Disney last weekend, so I think I put those on with a white summer dress and be a Disney bride or something when I hand out candy. Not super creative I know ;)
I'm gonna be a Bride, HAHAHHAHAH - - We're getting married on Halloween
@jackie-o: Yay!!! Congrats jackie-o! And good luck!!!!
@Entangled: I've been hearing a lot about this Boardwalk Empire but had no idea what it was so I went and googled. Sounds interesting! I'm glad your FI digs flappers; historically they seemed like some of the spunkiest, most take-charge sort of gals around before the 1970s. I didn't really get the appeal of the era at first, but the more I read about it and watched Clara Bow films (seriously, I'm obsessive), the cooler I thought it was. I think the way that so many prohibition-era women embodied typically masculine traits and yet still were va va voom sexpots sexually attractive to men is really interesting. A cool era for sure.
@bakerella: Oh well! It works! And if you're only going to be handing out candy, the only reason to dress up is to add a little bit of Halloween spirit to your night, so it seems like you'll be doing just that. And prolonging the afterglow of your wedding. :)
@mhudnall: That sounds awesome. I love the inspiration pic!! FI and I always talk about trying to coordinate our costumes and then never manage to. Mostly because neither of us ever wants to be the counterpart to what the other wants to go as (although last year I went as a WWII era pinup and he shot down the idea of going as a WWII era soldier; now this year he brought it up like it was a great costume idea. I could have smacked him).
I usually dress my cats up. You can imagine how much they love it. Actually Peter (the last one wearing the bat hat) really loves his hat, it's pretty cute. He gets all excited when he sees it. This year is our newest cat's first Halloween though. I've put her in the bee hat a few times to get her used to it. She no likey. LOL!

I am going as a zombie...but the details are still up in the air. I was thinking about going as a zombie bride, but thought that might be in poor taste/be bad luck.
ps: I love the cats pictures...
I'm going as cookie monster and my SO is going to be a cookie. I'm sewing both costumes myself- wish me luck!!
@zippylef: LOL! All you Halloween brides, I'm so jealous! Do you want me to loan you my sparkly Minnie ears? They come with a veil attached!
@rachaelrobin: Thanks! I think you should totally be a zombie bride. But only if FI goes as zombie groom. That's an awesome couples costume :)
@PinkBubbleGum: You're sewing both?! You're talented! I really want to take some sewing classes, I wish I was better at it.
@bakerella: Thanks! I'm not great at sewing, but I want to get better. I figure Halloween costumes don't have to be too high of quality, right?
@bakerella: Lol. My MOH actually bought me a "bridezilla" veil with glittery red horns.
The DH and I are going to be a zombie bride and groom. One year I was a "fresh" zombie but this time around I think I want to look like I have been in the ground for a lil longer...I will definitley have some dangly skin and exposed bones in my face. Here's a pic of me as a fresh zombie.

We're definitely more into the corny than the scary, so I think we're going as Peter and Lois from 'Family Guy.' :)
Peter and Lois.. .that's awesome. I'm going to be a voodoo doll this year (easy DIY costume! Yarn, goodwill dress, red felt, coat hangers, foam balls...easy peasy! Yay!) and my FI is going as a BP Cleanup Crew member (also easy DIY! Coveralls, hard hat, goo and stickers!).
bakerella I also love the cats costumes!! Hysterical. For a second I thought the orange thing underneath your black cat (whose face looks a lot like my black cat's, btw) was his tongue lolling out to the side, hardore...I had to do a triple take hahaha, it looked really ridiculous.
My friend dresses her poor cat up, too (and not just for Halloween...). Here's him last year:

Those are two stuffed cat heads. My friend had a Bacchanal-themed birthday party the day before Halloween, so most of my friends went to his party AND Halloween dresses as Ancient Greek gods/goddesses. The cat was the feline version of Cerberus, hahaha. He was still a kitten here. He's endured many costumes since (he was a reindeer for Christmas, Cupid for Valentine's Day...).
And @rachaeolrobin: I don't think there's anything wrong with going as a zombie bride and groom! It's just pretend. It's not like going as a zombie single person in previous years would have cursed you as a single person or something. :P
And @PinkBubbleGum: That is crazy! Crazy awesome! I wish I had the patience to sew an entire costume, but alas, my patience wears out mid-minor alterations most of the time, lol, so sewing an entire costume is out of the question. FI knows I can sew but am usually too lazy to do so and lately, in the midst of our find-a-costume-for-him drama, has insinuated many times that I should make major alterations on things he found so he can wear them for a costume...and I'm always just like, NO. Bless you for having more patience than me, lady. I bet the costumes are going to be amazing. The more homemade the better, I think.
And @FutureMrsL: That costume looks awesome, but if that's a fresh zombie, I think I would be horrified to see you as an older one! I am ridiculously squeamish so I'm already feeling a bit creeped out just looking at that pic! But I bet you're going to do a great job with it, the details on the fresh one were fantastic.
@jo.lee: I'm not much of a scary costumes person myself either! I don't watch Family Guy so I don't really know who those people are, but I like to know I'm not alone in the non-scary costumes category haha.
@staceynrick: I love the voodoo doll idea! That's a great "scary" costume that I personally have never seen done before.
Oh I love Halloween! I don't think we will be doing much other than handing out candy, but I will dress up as something to do that! Not sure what though...I have a few costumes kicking around to choose from :)
I'm going as Velma this year. I've had the costume since 2008 and never got to wear it. My husband is going as Shaggy (nothing to do with the new Scooby Doo series) and our 4-month old daughter is going to be Scooby.
I'm still not sure what we're going to do though. There's only so much you can do with an infant.
Other ideas were to go as Rukia and Ichigo from Bleach, and our daughter could be Kon. We also considered Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head and one of the Toy Story aliens. Another was Buzz and Jessie from Toy Story and one of the aliens again.
Halloween is so much fun. Dressing up is the best!
I am going as Bellatrix Lestrange, from Harry Potter. I just ordered my Dark Mark temporary tattoos today.
Zombie bride and groom it is! We just got back from goodwill - I just got an 80's wedding gown for....wait.for.it....$8.50! We got our whole costumes there (a pinstripe suit and dress shirt, curtain for a veil, silk flower bouquet, "pearls") everything for under 30 bucks! I am really excited.
A devil! I saw $1 pitchforks in the bargain bin and that decided that!
Scratch that - I'm not A devil, I'm THE devil, mothereffers. I'm bigtime.
Yes! My Bach is at a bad having naughty Disney costume theme! I am dressing up as

So I admittedly get way too excited about Halloween and the opportunity to dress up as something fun. I started thinking abut my costume relatively late into the year, for me, back in early September. I'd been lusting over red hair since mid-year (mostly because I used to get really strong red highlights in my hair in the summer and loved them; now I no longer do), and decided I wanted to go as a famous redhead, then went from there. For a while, I was having no luck winning a costume on ebay and was getting pretty frustrated, but when I finally won something, I was pumped. I'm going as Clara Bow, and got an amazing silk velvet drop-waist dress from the twenties, plus some amazing heels in like PERFECT condition from the early thirties. I think I can probably wear both of these things again, along with the jewelry I pick out, likely. The wig, probably not, haha.
We just picked out FI's costume last night, too, which was frustrating because he's so indecisive and waited a long time to try to find something, oh, and he made me do most of the looking. But he's going as a samurai, which I'm shocked he never did before, since he's been obsessed with samurai since he was a kid. We got him an awesome yukata and some waraji and tabi. He's going to carry one of his fake katanas through his obi. I think it's going to look pretty great.
So what about you guys? Do you dress up for Halloween? Tell about your costumes!!
