My in-laws host a Halloween party every year and my absolute favorite game is the scavenger hunt.  It’s really fun and really simple.  Everyone gets seperated into small groups, one person in the group brings a camera, and you’re sent off to find the items.

The people who are hosting the party are the judges, so they don’t get to participate in the hunt, which is probably the only downside.  They create a large list of items to search for around town that have different (secret) point values and the groups have to find the items and take a picture of them.  They’re left to decide which and how many items to find to try to get the most points.  The rules are simple:

  1. Everyone must be in costume.
  2. At least one person from the group has to be in the picture for it to “count.”
  3. You must be back before the time limit is up (usually 2 hours).

Afterwards, everyone uploads their pics to a computer and the hosts add up the points while they judge the pics.  The group that wins gets some sort of prize (my in-laws have everyone bring $5 to participate and then the group that wins gets all of the money).  Seriously, it’s everyone’s favorite.  🙂

That sounds like fun! Halloween Bingo (I saw a printable template for that recently online), pin the wart on the witch, bobbing for apples, get some toilet paper rolles and put people in teams to roll up a person as a mummy the fastest, paint a pumpkin…

i did this at a birthday party when i was little and it’s something i’ve always remembered.

the family created a spiderweb made of string going thru their hallway/bedrooms and we were each given an empty toliet paper roll which was attached to one of the strings that made up the web. we wrapped the string around the roll as we followed it and when we reached the end there was a prize.

i can imagine it would be very time consuming to create the web, but at least taking it down would be done by your guests, lol. and you could do a prize for everyone like the bday i went to or you could just do one prize for a lucky winner or do a few little prizes and one grand prize…

One party I went to the host had printed out a bunch of celebrity names (musicians, TV personalities, animated characters, politicians, etc) and as you came in he would safety pin a name to your back.  You would have to mingle with other guests, asking them questions about yourself to try and determine “who you are.”

In another game there was a bunch of silly magazine or newspaper photos and you had to caption the photo or describe what it was trying to sell, etc.  Kinda fun, but that may be obsolete now with internet memes.

I also highly recommend playing “Cards Against Humanity” if you can find a copy, it is like totally politically incorrect and dirty and gross adult Apples to Apples.  Don’t play it in mixed company.
