Any other Hampton Roads/Tidewater area brides? Since we're not North or Southwester, I figured Richmond was the closest geographical location!
Give a shout out and let the other area ladies know how you're planning is going!
Yes! I am another Hampton Roads bride! I can't find a geat blog for our area and I need lots of help! :)
Hi wahine! I don't know of any Hampton Roads specific blogs. My personal blog is www.palindromebride.blogspot.com - I have my vendors linked on the side and some reviews. I've done a ton of research, so give me a shout out if you need anything in particular.
Where an when are you getting married?
Welcome to the hive :)
hey ladies, I posted a while back looking for other HR brides. I'm really not actively planning right now, just research stage. I'm on the peninsula.
Hey FlipFlop! Enjoy the research stage! I think that part was fun getting to see all the different options - now I'm in the commitment stage - having to put down deposits and make decisions. Yikes! It's been harder for me.
Do either of you girls have your dress yet?
haven't even tried any on. i'm dragging my feet on that especially. I'll probably go by myself the first time. I want to take my mom & grandma, but unfortunately they don't get along. So I'm dragging because I'm not ready for the drama. I have some dress ideas in mind
HELLO fellow bees! I'm from Va Beach, but live in Richmond! I'm getting married in Aruba next May. It's funny that your talking about the dress! Pure English (on Laskin rd) just called me today and told me my dress was in!! YIPPEEE!! I went to the shop in June and they said it would be in in Oct/Nov! Pure English was a nice place and great people there too!
@jingle: thanks! I have my dress, but need alterations done - are you getting your alterations done there?
@flipflop: what designers are you looking at?
I don't have a particular designer in mind yet. i really love Pronovias dresses, but they're way out of my budget. I'll probably be the girl at David's Bridal fighting over a plain gown in the $99 sale. But if we go with the beach wedding that FI really wants, I'm really into Mori Lee 6172
Like I said, I'm really dragging my feet on this one. If we're going for the beach, i really want a tea-length dress (my grandmother wore an amazing tea-length gown for her wedding...I'm even contemplating having it recreated for me).
If we decide on another venue, I really have no idea until I try on some different styles and see what looks good on me.
I love Pronovias too! I had given up on finding one my price range, but I tried one on at a salon and I walked out with the floor sample for cheap!
I love the idea of a tea length dress as well. I was the one who wanted a beach wedding and FI was the one who wanted the big traditional wedding - lol.
Do you know anyone in the military who could sponsor you? If so, you could get married by the lighthouse at Ft. Story and have the reception at the club there. That could be a good, and budget friendly beach option for you :)
Hey ladies! I'm getting married June 2010 at the Lesner Inn in Virginia Beach. Thanks for starting this thread! I currently live in Atlanta, GA so I'm planning a wedding from afar. It's difficult because we have so few vacation days to take off and come up to plan, and many of the vendors are busy on the weekends. We were able to meet with Bloom in Norfolk this past Monday. We also got engagement photos taken on Sunday with our wedding photographer James Christianson.
Have you guys had good luck finding great vendors in the area? If so who are they?
hey jaymugirly! I have a coworker getting married at the Lesner Inn this fall - pretty venue!
Which vendors are you still looking for? I have a list of the ones I've booked so far on my blog. Looks like you've got the photographer, reception venue, and caterer. I'm not using a florist but do have a recommendation for that. Also I can share with you the name/number of the girl who's doing my hair and whatnot. Let me know what you need and I can help you out :)
Thanks spwingal! We are very excited about the Lesner.
I have a wedding planner who's got some suggestions, but I'd love the name of your hair person. Does she do makeup?
Spwingal-I'm having my dress altered by Pure English. They don't have an on site seamstress, but the one they recommend comes by to take necessary measurements.
Any of you ladies using a ceremony musician? I'm looking for a guitarist in the area.
You should post on craigslist under "gigs". I know a lot of people I went to college with regularly got hired that way.
Hi All!
I'm a Hampton Roads bride as well. I'm getting married in less then 3 weeks now in Virginia beach! I can't believe its come so close.
How is everyones planning coming along? Its amazing to think its been over a year since I started planning. Lamb-y has become my favorite bee! I love your blogs.
Love to hear about everyones weddings!
I'm a Virginia Beach bride! I have a few reception sites posted on my blog feel free to check them out!

Currently I'm looking for outside catering...any suggestions?
Thanks!
Hi dancingactress! Woo hoo! It's almost your time. When you've settled back down from your honeymoon, I'm sure the other 757ers would love to hear your take on local vendors and such. Keep us in the loop :)
Great compilation of area non-hotel venues 3 o'clock walk! Thanks for sharing! Have you interviewed or gone to any tastings yet? I did a tasting with East Beach Catering and was sold! If your venue doesn't have a list and you're looking for someone who could really work with you on concepts and budget-wise, my colleague's wife owns a catering company. She does delicious food and is completely reasonable. I'd be happy to PM you her info if you'd like it!
Hey there :) i'm getting married in Williamsburg - does that count for HR? since its technically between richmond and HR.... :)
Absolutely! I tend to think of it as part of HR because so many people commute between the two! Welcome :)
I am looking for a cake vendor in the williamsburg area that does stellar red velvet - with BUTTERCREAM frosting :) any ideas ladies?
Hey everyone! How's the planning going?? Miss Lamb - It's almost time!! What are you finishing up currently? I just found a florist, Debbie Pence... she works for herself and has great ideas. We are coming up in January to do a walk thru and tasting at our venue (Lesner Inn). It will be our only time to complete wedding tasks in Virginia before the actual wedding in June... eek! I'm getting nervous there won't be enough time in one weekend.
Good luck planning everyone! I can't wait to hear all about it.
Oh man! I'm tying up all the loose ends and prepping for my move to Durham once we're married. The projects from here on out are are on the smaller side (OOT bags, favors, photobooth props, etc). I've been working with really great local talent, so I can't wait to share some reviews and the final outcomes for the 757 ladies. Have a wonderful visit in January! I'm sorry I won't be there for a get together :(
@jaymugrly: Hey Im getting married at the Lesner Inn May 15th 2010....your more than welcome to come to our wedding and see ideas/ any intrest in the food and things...you can contact me at ashleyryan8@gmail.com
Im using Bloom for my florist and went to samhillentertainment.com for our band. Let me know if you need any help..im planning from raleigh but was born in va beach!
Hi all! I'm planning my wedding in Hampton Roads from Maryland. I'm getting married 11-13-2010 in Norfolk. Church is booked, but still searching for reception venues, catering, and photography. Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!
Hey Viola,
I'm in Norfolk! I haven't looked at any venues yet as a bride, but I've been to a lot of them as a guest. I've had several friends use Sam Hughes as a photographer (as did Mrs. Lamb) and they all have beautiful pictures. I also know a few people who have used Echard Wheeler and they have lovely pics as well. They both have blogs for stalking. :) Do you mind saying what church you are marrying in?
Let me know if I can help at all. Happy planning!
I'm getting married at South Norfolk Baptist Church - it's where my parents and grandparents were married, and I was baptized. I requested quotes from Founder's Inn, Sheraton Waterside, and Marriott Downtown Norfolk. Founder's Inn is booked for my date, and a bit pricey for me. We're looking at having 150 guests. Thanks for the photographers, I'll check them out!
Hi Viola!
Our reception was at the Harrison Opera House and catered by East Beach Catering - I recommend both! Our family stayed at the Marriott and that's where our rehearsal dinner was hosted as well. We had delicious food the whole weekend. Are you looking for a hotel reception place in particular? Another hotel in the area would be the Renaissance right across the water in Portsmouth. If you're open to non-hotels, you can also check into the Nauticus (they have banquet rooms with great water views). I loved working with Sam Hughes! If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask!
Thanks Lambie :) We're going in February to take a look at Cape Henry Beach Club on Ft Story in VA Beach - FI and I are DoD civilians (working for the Navy!!) so we can use military sites, which would be a more budget friendly option for us. I can't wait to see all your recaps! You looked gorgeous in your wedding photo, reminded me of Lauren Bacall!
Ft. Story is beautiful with the lighthouses and the O club is right near the beach. Lambster was in the Navy and if we had gotten married over the summer, I would have definitely wanted to have the wedding down there! Another photographer that I worked with in VA Beach who I loved was Amy Sandoval. She did some really beautiful portraits for me. Have fun planning!
Hello All, I'm a Hampton Roads bride and I thought I'd share some hard to find info I've gotten recently.
1) Tiffany's Bridal at PortWarick is going out of business and they are selling their stock bridal and bridesmaid dresses for up to 75% off. They have a lot of Mori Lee and Maggie Sottero dresses if anyone is interested.
2) I found a Victorian Home in downtown Suffolk that can be rented for both receptions and wedding locations. Beautiful location, really great to work with and they do in house catering for a discount. It's The First Lady of Suffolk, call and ask for Jen.
Just thought I'd share a bit. Its hard to find good reasonably priced stuff in the Hampton Roads area. It seems you have to drive to Richmond for any kind of selection.
Great tips Amanda!
You ladies getting married in May and June are getting so much closer! I hope all your planning is going smoothly :)
Hello All,
Hey Amanda-Thanks for posting about Tiffanys, I went today and found my dress. Its fits perfectly! Well I am getting married in Norfolk, details are below!
Wedding Coordinator: Weddings by Michelle Kilgore-She's Awesome!
Wedding/Reception Venue: Chrysler Museum
Photographer: Eleise Theuer-She's Awesome also---Fabulous Blog
Caterer: Cuisine & Company
DJ: Astro
Flowers: Bloom
Cake: Incredible Edible Cakes
Officiant: Connie Hanna
Lighting: Blue Steel Pro Lighting
Now if I could just get all these people paid...haha!
We used Blue Steel as well! I'd love to see your photographs after your wedding, everything I've seen of theirs in the Chrysler Museum has been beautiful!
It's official!! We have a reception venue :) Wedding will be at South Norfolk Baptist Church, and the reception will be at Vista Point Center at Norfolk Naval Station :) And I found our photographer today. So happy, things are falling in place!
@Violachap Who are you using as your Photog?
Hi girls! I'm getting married this summer in Hampton Roads so I wanted to join in. I live in Florida now, but I grew up in Chesapeake and am moving to Portsmouth next month. Here are some of my details:
Ceremony: Monumental UMC in Olde Towne
Reception & catering: Waterman's Surfside Grille in VB (They have a beautiful space with the most amazing oceanfront view...definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a venue for an under-100 person wedding!)
Dress: purchased from Tiffany's in NN
Photographer: Andi Grant (she is so much fun and does awesome work)
Cake: Shockley's Sweet Shoppe
Flowers: Norfolk Wholesale Floral
I hope everyone else's planning is going great! Florida is nice, but I will be really excited to get back to Tidewater!
Finally...a non-NOVA/DC board! =)
Our wedding is at the Colonial Heritage Country Club in Williamsburg, VA. Got my dress at Bella Rosa in Richmond (highly recommend this place!) and the photographer is from out-of-town (although he travels if anyone's interested).
I'm actually having a hard time finding any good makeup artists/hair stylists in the area. Most online searches bring up people in the NOVA/DC area and I'd prefer if these people were local. So any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
