For sunflowers I would go with hand-tied. I'm not sure they would even fit in a holder. Holders remind me of the 80's for some reason. LOL. Who know why! Anyway, sunflowers have a very organic look, so a hand tied bouquet would look just right! Good Luck!
I agree with KateMW....hand tied :) I am really thinking about using sunflowers also (Labor Day weekend wedding in 2010) because I'm from Kansas and I love the connection. Plus, I think tied bouquets just look better with either the wrap on the stems or the exposed ones on bottom. Have you thought about hand tied with a pretty ribbon hanging? I have this photo below saved in my files...it's from Martha Stewart Weddings. I love the big bow! Go to the website and read more about the wedding and to see more photos of the bouquet if you'd like. And just yesterday I was searching for sunflower bouquets and found the one with roses added and L-O-V-E-D it! I highly suggest you check out this website for more sunflower inspiration!! Good luck :D
I think hand-tied looks so much more romantic...
I think I'm definitely leaning more towards the hand-tied. I've been looking at tutorials and I think I can do it :-).
And thank you for the beautiful ideas Curlysue! I think I saw the one with the roses and it is gorgeous! I found another one I like that uses sunflowers and little pink flowers....I'll see if I can post pictures of it. I think I may try to do something like that, but with white or red flowers (I have to see what I can find).
I'm thinking about wrapping the stems with lace (becacuse my dress is lace) or with brown ribbon to match my bridesmaids, or maybe a combination of the two :-)
You're welcome! I love that bouquet you found. What if you used brown fabric to wrap the stems and then wrapped lace over the brown? That way you get both! I would just make sure the lace doesn't wrap more then once, it may cover up the brown underneath too much. Secure the lace with some pretty pearl headed pins?

I'm doing my own flowers and have been researching ideas for making my bouquet. Half the instructions I find call for using a bouquet holder whereas the other half are tied together. What did you use for your flowers? Have you tried both? I'm doing Sunflowers as my main flower, so I'm leaning towards hand-tied over the holder, but I was wondering what people have used before and what the pros and cons of each method are.
