Aw! That is so awesome! Mr. Hum and I have been mulling incorporating a handfasting into our ceremony so it's awesome to see such a beautiful one. :)
Congratulations!
Thanks Bonniebelle101. You look so beautiful and the ceremony looked like it was very moving. If you don't mind, would you share the words to the ceremony? I have found a few online but they have not clicked with us yet. Also how many ribbons did you use and did they have a significance? Again thanks for posting, you're right about there not being a lot of pictures out there with handfasting ceremony.
I'll be more than happy to share. I have the wording at home so I'll post it tonight when I get home. I found it online and then adapted it a little. The thing I love the most is that it acknowledges the postive and negative aspects of relationships. For instance the vows I remember right off the top of my head are:
Officiant: Groom, will you cause her anger?
Groom: I may.
Officiant: Is that your intent?
Groom: No.
(same questions asked to bride)
Officiant: will you take the heat of anger and use it to forge an even stronger bong between the two of you?
Bride and Groom: I will.
As far as the ribbons, we used 1/2 inch grossgrain ribbon because it was heavier and less likely to slip against each other and fall off than satin. Anything wider would have been difficult to tie together. We decided not to have each one represent something because we felt it was taken care of by the vows, but you could easily add that in. We did lay them out on a table at the rehearsal dinner and ask everyone to bless them and write their initials on the ribbons with a fabric pen. It worked ok, but would have been easier if we'd use lighter colored ribbon. We decided not to go with white ribbon because we already had a lot of the brown and green. And we also decided that the writing on them was more for the person giving their blessing than for us to be able to display them.
We did decide to have our best man tie them together since he is my husband's "brother from another mother" and then my mom who was our MOH read the traditional Irish bless, "May the road rise to meet you. etc". It was very powerful and I loved having so much participation.
I'll post the whole ceremony later tonight when I get home.
I've been trying to figure out how to post out ceremony up here but it's really too long for a post. Luxe, and anyone else who would like a copy, please give me your email and I'll email the file over to you.
Bonniebell101, that looks beautiful! I would love to see the text, would you mind sending it to jlsween at emory.edu? Thanks!
Absolutely everyone! I totally forgot to send them out last night, but I have a reminder in my cell phone for tonight!

Well... we did it! We actually got married!!! Everything went soooo smoothly, even with only an hour from the time we got into the facility to when we were supposed to start the ceremony. All my girlfriends pitched in (since we didn't have the money for a professional coordinated or anything). All my planning and OCD organization payed off. What I wanted to post about though was the handfasting ceremony! It went off beautifully and so many people said they enjoyed seeing something so different. I wanted to post a couple of pictures since I had never seen one done before we did this one ourselves. I thought it might help others who are working out the logistics.
If anyone wants additional information, please just let me know.
