My mom and I were thinking that we’d make linen napkins in various colors for the tables at my wedding– since we both sew and it would be a lot nicer than rented, boring polyester napkins. We thought they might make nice favors– we wouldn’t need 90 linen napkins so people could take them home.
But I can see that a used napkin would not be a great favor to bring home, and my FI doesn’t really like the idea. Would you, as a wedding guest, want to take home a handmade linen napkin? Or not?

Creiddylad: probably not. One napkin that doesn’t match anything wouldn’t be of any use in my home.
However, I still think making your own napkins is a great idea. I have seen sets of them sold on Tradesy by brides who did the same thing, so selling them is an option.
I made denim napkins for a rehearsal dinner and the bride broke them up into sets of 8 and gave them to family members after the wedding.

julies1949: I like the idea of deviding them up into sets and giving them away afterwards. The colors will probably be light greens, peach, pale yellow, and maybe light pink, and with 80-90 guests that will be enough to make a good-sized set of each color. I’m sure my bridesmaids and other people who will be helping out won’t mind getting a set of nice napkins!
