It looks great! My only suggestion would be using some battery operated tealights inside to reduce the wire bulkage. Or those LED string lights with a battery attachment. The string lights are really light and doesn't get too hot so you can probably just tape them in.
As for the loop, try using a hula hoop wrapped with ribbon.
@Vitsippa: I definitely plan to use the throwies b/c I don't want electrical wires everywhere =) The hula hoop is a good idea. I might do a trial run of that to see how it looks.
I can't decide if I want mine all over, or in groups. If I do groups I'd definitely steal the idea of a hula hoop wrapped in ribbon. Great idea!
I think you could probably use a cross-stitch circle? you can find those at michaels or joannes.
@CorgiTales: That's another good idea. That might work b/c it's not like the lanterns weigh a ton. I am checking that out too. They have some little lanterns at dollar tree that I am going to use for my trial.
@JamaicaBride: check the classifieds as well. i have some lanterns i plan to post there from my wedding after i check them out to make sure they didn't get torn or dirtied up, and i'm sure i'm not the only one. :)
Didn't want to start a new thread but I figured out how to hang my lanterns in groupings. The power of the "X" frame...or should I say "+" frame. I went to Lowe's with the idea in my head of how to make this thing work and I must say, it worked out perfectly and I was able to get the look I wanted. It took about 10 to 15 minutes to make one frame and each frame costs about $4 to make.
The finished result.

Your trial looks great! Love the varied heights and sizes. (I'll make sure to post lots of lantern pics when I do recaps.)

After reading bee blogger Miss Pain au Cocolat's blog entry today, I started thinking about hanging my chinese lanterns in groupings. She had some excellent ideas that I may "borrow" if I can figure out the logistics. Instead of having chinese lanterns hanging all over the tent, I thought it would be cool to have groupings of Chinese lanterns hanging over each table. Like this
However, I have never seen the plastic wagon wheel thingies in the store. Does anyone know what these are called and where I can purchase them? I figure if I can get some of the wagon wheels, I can pre-string the lanterns and then the day of, I just have to worry about putting in the throwies and attaching the wagon wheel to the tent structure.
So...help a bee out..what are they and where can I buy them?? Thoughts, suggestions, have some laying around the house that you want to send me?
