Don’t freak out!!!! Smile We’re using them as well and have heard fabulous things about them. Not sure what sort of negative things you’ve heard–the bad things I’ve come across mainly have to do with not being able to hear their bands in person before booking. But we were so blown away by the DVD they showed us that we booked the next day. We’re using one of their bands, so I”m not sure about their DJs, but it’s a verrrry well known company so I’m sure their DJs are top notch as well. Can you ask for references for the specific DJ you want to use?

Ahh ok. In that case, I still wouldn’t worry. The ceremony musicians are also members in the various bands, and from what I’ve heard, they’re amazing. So I’m sure they’ll sound awesome at the wedding. Yeah it is a bit strange they don’t let you hear them in person beforehand, but from what I’ve heard (and what I”m hoping for myself!) they are fantastic in person. They’ve been around for a while and what they told me is that their musicians all go through at least a few years of training with Hank Lane before being allowed to do events, so I’m sure they’ll know how to work together for whatever ceremony music you pick. And totally–if Tutera uses them, they must be fab–he would never stand for anything less!

I cannot speak for everyone, but I think the concerns most brides have with Hank Lane is their business practices, not their musical abilities.  The booking agents are very pushy, and keep calling brides to tell them that the band is, “about to get booked because they are so popular!”  My specific concern with Hank Lane was that my family is involved in a charitable organization that books one of their bands every year for 8,000.  When I asked for a price for the exact same band for my wedding, they quoted $17,000!  I asked them why there was such an amazing price discrepancy, and they tried to explain my wedding date was so much more in demand than the date of the charity event.  Um, no – my wedding was in August, and the charity event was always on a Saturday night in May (the height of the wedding season in NY).  So their booking agent called me every week to tell me I might lose the band, and I got her off the phone by asking her to explain the price discrepancy.
