So, I'm not Jewish, but I love decorating. I did a quick search on pinterest and found a few ideas:

Beside these, I don't really know what is common.
Have fun decorating! I'm sure your in-laws will appreciate anything you do.
I'm Jewish, but we haven't decorated for Hanukkah since I was a kid! We always have the menorah though. My mom used to hang something similar to what PP posted though.
Also, we had an electric menorah that we put in our window...
Can you get gelt (chocolate coins) readily near you? Maybe you can scatter them on the table for a festive look.
Good luck!
ETA: when i mean what the PP posted, i meant her first pic of the dreidels on string!
It's traditional to have a menorah in the window facing toward the street (as opposed to towards your backyard where passersby couldn't see it)--since the regular kind present a fire-hazard most people will put an electric one on the window sill. Other than that, the decorations are really just done for little kids, so don't worry too much about it. If you still want some stuff though, any local target/cvs/walmart/whatever will have decorations you can hang or those decal-type things you put on windows. have fun!
I'm in the same boat.... This is our first year not celebrating Christmas and since that's all I've ever known I'm kinda stumped.
I did see a Hanukkah shelf at Target today with some things and I really like the first poster 1st pic! I may do somethin like that.
Goodluck finding some more things =)
I just found this too from Martha Stewart! She's ALWAYS awesome... here are her Hanukkah links
@amnystik: Is your husband Jewish? I always thought you were very Christian from your posts so I'm interested to hear why you're not celebrating Christmas this year!
As for Chanukah decorations - there are a ton of things you can do, just keep it silver and blue (or gold). Lots of pretty table cloths, ceiling decorations, banners, you could even do white small string lights around a room or something.
@Ms Hedgehog: So glad you asked this question. I, too, am married to a Jewish man and would like to incorporate some other items besides the menorah. Thanks Ms Hedgie and other posters.
@jacinda10: No, we're both fully devoted followers of Jesus. I sent you a MSG as to not get off topic on the thread :)
I make a lot of handmade decorations since we are interfaith as well. I use green and red driedles inside silver or blue bowls. We have our hanukkah bush aka christmas tree decorated in blue and white thats also disney themed. I have also have table cloths for hanuukah, and our side tables near our couch have christmas colored candles on them. I also have hanukkah window clings from target. Walmart and Target and even michaels have great things for hanukkah. I can take some pictures of what I have so far if you would like!
Okay, so I decided to do a search on eBay and Etsy. Here are a few cute things I found:

@jacinda10: I'm not sure what "very Christian" means... Not bad I hope! And I am Christian. My Hubby is Jewish though. WE have always celebrated both holidays and our apartment is already very Chistmassy... I just want to add more of a Hanukkah flair too. For him and for his family.
Edit. I didn't realize you were talking to someone else. NVM!
@FutureMrsChaney: That would be awesome! In the Bible Belt we don't have ANY Hanukkah stuff. Not even a pathetic little shelf at Walmart or Target! So I have to rely on why I can find online or make...
Also, (and yes, I am blowing up my own thread) I found this on etsy a while back. She is custom making matching mirrors to look just like this for Hanukkah and Christmas! I am so excited! It is way too cute.

@Ms Hedgehog: That's awesome! Do you hava link for the seller? *I like*
I'm Jewish and other than hanging up the Happy Hanukkah sign and putting out the menorah, we never decorated. I don't think most Jewish families decorate that much for Hanukkah as it's really not a very important holiday (not compared to Rosh Shoshana and Yum Kippur). It's only made into a big deal because it falls so close to Christmas. I obviously don't know your in-laws but I doubt they expect you to decorate. Food is generally important in Jewish holidays, so make them latkes and brisket and I'm sure they'll be happy (let me know if you need recipes).
@flutterbi: Hahaha. Thanks. Believe me, there is no way to be married to this family and NOT have an arsenal full of good Jewish food. Mr. Hedgie is actually begging us to go to a decent Jewish Deli. He finally found one in Dallas and we have never gone. And thanks. I will stop worrying about decortaing so much. I am sure they will appreciate the apartment as it is.
@amnystik: Absolutely! It is JennaRoseCollection and she makes some of the cutest designs! I can't wait for a proof of ours. She even still has a Christmas one you might like.

@Ms Hedgehog: Thanks! I'm actually looking for Hanukkah stuff.... We weren't going to decorate, but I think it'll be an easier transition for DS if we do somethings and then transition them out over the next couple of years. =)
@amnystik: Ah, well you can message her about the Hanukkah mirror. She is making mine as we speak! I am sure she can make you one as well.
@Ms Hedgehog: After dinner tonight I will take and post the pictures for you girls! You can really use a lot of the christmas stuff when your making your hanukkah decorations. I used the fake garland , blue and silver ribbon, and some blue and silver spray decorations to make cute little wall mounted hangings.
@amnystik: Im curious too, can I get a PM about your decision to not celebrate Christmas? :)
@FutureMrsChaney: I can't wait to see! I am SO ready to be inspired! Until then, have a Happy Thanksgiving U.S. ladies!
My FI is Catholic and I am Jewish, and one way we incorporate Hanukkah into our holiday decorations is by decorating the tree in Hanukkah colors. Silver, blue, and white.
Hanukkah is the festival of lights, so hanging lights, decorating in blues & silvers, and just keeping a balance of traditions is what has worked well for us!
@amnystik: I don't mean to be nosey either, but I've always admired how open you are about your faith and I'm wondering why you're not celebrating either... : )
My first college roommate was Jewish, and we decorated our dorm in what we lovingly called "Jewmas" decor- we had window clings of menorahs and christmas trees, stockings and dreidels, etc. I put up my fiberoptic Christmas tree and we made a Star of David to go on top, and she had a menorah in the window. It was really fun to learn about each others' traditions!
Side note, I LOVE those little dreidel streamers.
we're interfaith - for our xmas tree we have a snowflake on top, lots of lights and balls on the tree but I also went to the dollar store to buy a whole bunch of large dreidels, covered them in white glue and then blue and silver glitter. When they were dry I crazy glued a bead on top and put string through them to hang them. Bed Bath and Beyond near us (because there is a fair amount of Jewish people) sells a lot of "Christmukkah" stuff - Magen david tree toppers, lots of garlands. We have an electric menorah in the front window and my candle menorah in the kitchen area, but that's really it. Our xmas lights outside on the house are blue and white, with a wreath and large red bells in the centre, so it covers everything.
We didn't decorate this year. Hanukkah is a minor children's holiday, as PPs have said, so I don't always bother. In past years I have decorated at home or at work with:
- paper 3D dreidels from a pattern I found online.
- silver garland with Stars of David all over it
- blue and white lights
- blue and white snowflake lights
- snowflake and icicle ornaments (white, gold, or silver) or paper snowflakes
- Hanukkah-themed and winter-themed window clings
- gelt (the chocolate coins with gold wrappers)
- candles!!!
- Hanukkah tablecloth or table runner, kitchen towels, etc.
- any other ornaments, ribbon, candy, or winter decorations without obvious christmas designs and in shades of blue, white, silver, and gold. you can put ornaments in a bowl or tall vase or scattered around the menorah.
And of course, I always have my menorah out and lit and latkes for dinner. :)
Sorry this is a bit late, but Hanukkah is technically on for this one more night! :)
Hanukkah is actually a very minor holiday in Judaism, and has only become more widely noticed because of the proximity to Christmas and the associated hype. Traditionally, we don't do anything for Hanukkah besides light the menorah for 8 days, eat foods fried in oil, and play dreidel with children.
The Hanukkah decorations is very non-traditional, and to me personally (although others may have different opinions) is just an attempt to imitate the glitz and sparkle of Christmas, when there wasn't supposed to be any in the first place. I especially don't care for the "Hanukkah Bush" concept (Christmas tree decked in Judaic ornaments/color scheme) and (often gawdy) Hanukkah decorations, since they have absolutely nothing to do with Judaism and is really just confusing the true meaning of both holidays.
To me, the most appropriate thing to do in an interfaith household is to observe each holiday separately, and traditionally. Christmas tree, Christmas decorations, presents and cookies (or whatever else your family does), and separate Hanukkah candle-lighting, fried foods, dreidel games, songs and limited decorations. That way, the children and spouses are able to have a *clear* view of what each holiday means, without getting the ideas muddled and confused. But again, that's just my opinion, do what you will :)
Happy holidays to everyone!

Our apartment will turn pretty silver and blue with hints of Christmas green and red in the next couple days. Normally Mr. Hedie is happy with decorating the Christmas tree and setting out the menorah. Everything else falls on me and since all I know is Christmas, well, that is what we get! Problem is my IL's are going to be here for the first night of Hanukkah this year and I am CLUELESS as to how to decorate. I have always wanted things to look for 50/50 and now I have a reason but Mr. Hedgie isn't any help... Suggestions? We have silver and blue lights and ornaments as well as some other minor decorations and a menorah. That's it. I need some Jewish bee help here!
