we eloped last month and keeping with the south pacific island theme we sent everyone a "message in a bottle" (i really should take a pic of it but im really bad at cameras and downloading stuff)
how about something with a european theme (or a SF theme).... where are you going? you can include that in your news as part of your next great adveture together

-Eloping - I love your South Pacific theme. I'd have been so tickled to receive a message in a bottle. Myself, I'm jumping up and down inside at the thought of eloping, moving, and then having all the announcements arrive once we're off the North American continent! I won't be able to hear them from Italy!
I'll be sure to be posting about the last minute frenzies of moving and wedding prep. It's going to be a fun summer!
I found FI's groom gift yesterday on etsy and am seriously excited about it. He's a *huge* opera fan (he once listened to Mozart's Idomeneo on CD for six weeks straight every day at work). And I found these antique Parisian mother of pearl opera glasses on etsy:

my question... what qualifies as 'eloping'? I mean, I always picture eloping as running to Vegas or something. Is it still considered eloping if you are actually PLANNING it? This is probably a stupid question.

@GaBGal - Eloping means so many different things these days! Some people say a 30 person destination wedding is eloping, others only if you do it on your lunch break spur of the moment. We're calling our wedding eloping because we're not telling anybody except the three guests coming with us. And it needs a little planning in advance because you should get the marriage license in advance of the ceremony - it makes things easier. Also, since we're bringing a photographer and want to have a mini-moon after, we need to plan. For us, especially, since we're moving to Europe a week after and everything is kind of crazy now, the more planning the better!
@ladybuglove - Thank you! SF City Hall is *so* beautiful. They actually rent out the whole place on the weekend for weddings, but that costs thousands of dollars - as opposed to the $92 for a wedding ceremony :-).

Dear everyone who gave me advice on how to tell people we were going to elope in 2010 - thank you, from the bottom of my heart. You really cheered me up and....
*drumroll*
We've decided to elope this year - in September! We've got about five to six weeks to find flowers, get him shoes, get my dress altered, cancel all the other wedding vendors
and oh, we're moving to Europe September 30th. So we'll have to find moving boxes at the same time...
but really, I'm so happy and so excited! This is definitely the right decision. Miss Mary Jane, thank you for all of your posts too! You've made me feel very confident about what we're doing. We're taking three friends and a photographer to San Francisco's city hall (which let's face it, it's gorgeous!) and we'll have dinner afterwards. Yippee! I'm getting married!
